| Anyone know if their iPhone can pair with HFL (hands free link) in an 05 MDX? I can't get mine to work, and the woman at the toll-free HFL number said they were just testing the iPhone (but it works in the 07s). Will I have to buy an 07? :D I love my iPhone but that would make it a very expensive phone! |

Just got it to work with my 05 today. Pairing was tricky for me, but once paired it sends and receives fine over HFL. I haven't tried starting a dial on the phone then transfering, and I've heard that doesn't work so well with 05's.
I parked my car outside the AT&T store and they let me pair to the floor model to test it. That went flawlessly.
When I tried to pair my phone at home, it took several attempts to succeed. The initial discovery and number entry went fine, but after the HFL asked for a phone name, the HFL abruptly quit without the saving the phone. The iPhone thought it was paired.
I noticed that discovery seemed to be very position-sensitive; maybe there's a reception problem? In all my failed attempts, I was holding the phone in the center of the car, about 1 foot away from the climate controls. As I waved the phone around during discovery, the HFL entry came and went on the iPhone. I finally settled on a position closer to the glovebox, and the pairing immediately worked. It could all be concidence, or there could be an actual signal strength or interference issue.
Once paired, the phone works fine sitting in the cup holder, where I usually keep my phones. |

2005 mdx and the iphone
So I got the iphone and went through the pairing procedure. Everything went well and the the iphone is now paired. But then I noticed something.
When I dial a number using the phone and not using the HFL, I can not hear the other side ring, when the line is picked up I can talk fine. But I can not hear the other side ringing.
Has any one else here noticed this? If so, do you have any suggestions for me to fix this?
Thanks |

| I finally got mine all up and running and it seems to be fine (other than the Belkin charger, which causes intermittent static buzzing). The iPhone speaker is very soft-- you may not be hearing the ring. Or just transfer the call to HFL. |

I was also wondering about the iphone pairing with an 2005 MDX. I currently have a work supplied Blackberry 7520 and with it have the same issues as the iphone, so it is not just an issue with the iphone.
It takes the Blackberry a few tries to pair also and I also don't hear the other side ring with I use HFL or the phone to make a call. You just hear the other side after they pickup the phone. So they do not seem to be iphone specific issues, but issues with the 2005 MDX. I still love my car though. I am trying to go the iphone route though if I can convince my boss. :) |
