Hello All:
I just picked up my first Acura 2007 MDX with Sport / Ent package. I was hoping to hear some feedback relating the quality of the 5.1 sound system. When I listens to XM, CD, or FM, I find that the sound quality is not up to par with Bose, or Harman Kardon, or even Bostons. I was very dissapointed with how poor a 425 watts sound system. Has anyone did anything or is there a setting that dramatically improve the sound?
Any help would be appreciated. |

Everyone perceives things differently, I guess. I had a 2006 Acura RL, and I loved the sound system, but I thought that there was an extra vibrancy to the MDX sound system that surpassed that Bose system. And I'm truly amazed as to how much the Dolby ProLogic 2 adds to non-DVDA source material; it's pretty phenomenal.
Sorry to hear you're not satisfied with it--I'm curious to see if I'm in the minority here... |

Porkchop, I agree 100% the system on FM/AM, XM, and regular CD play sounds cheap and cheesy; not a very good job by Acura's system designers.
I have figured out a work around for CD music, sounds much better on the 5.1 system. Buy you some DVD audio disc from:

I've discussed here before how XM sounds terrible, but that is XM.
My car is now two weeks old and the audio is sounding a little better as the speakers break in. I usually like to give it a month before I decide how much I do or do not like it.
I am surprised that it doesn't sound a little richer at low volumes, even with bass/treble changes. |

| For you "Entertainer" models owners, make sure you have the "front" speaker button pushed otherwise it sounds terrible. Could this be the case? You may have the "rear sound" button pushed.... |

| I agree that the X sound system is not up to bar. Even with hours on tweaking the sound controls, the result is still no where in decency. To me, it is just an OK sound system, nothing impressive. Even my 2007 ES350 sound system also got a thumb down from me. My other 2003 ES300 sound system however is superb in quality. Treble sound is so crisp, and bass is warmingly deep. Only if I could switch my ES300 sound system to the new X, then it would be perfect. |

| I guess I will give it another week or so for the speaker to break-in. I am still not impressed by this sound system. Especially the 8" factory subwoofer. |

| I have to admit that CDs, DVDs, and MP3s on DVD-Rs sound great in the X however the radio is pretty horrible and the XM is not that great. Too bad the radio and XM do not live up to the system's potential. I listen to my 35gigs of MP3s anyways on the DVD-Rs so I'm pretty happy with it. |

| I must be in the minority but for me it sounds great. I have a so-called 'up level' JBL sterero in my Sienna with so many speakers and sub. But that sounds horrible. The MDX on the other hand (to my un-trained ears) sounds far better than any other car stereo system I have owned. |

I am not overly impressed.
XM sounds weak, I get static on FM and there is a lot of fullness to the CD sounds.
The Bose system in my 2004 Maxima was better, that being said, it isn't horrible. |

| My only real complaint is that there is no "midrange" adjustment ... only treble and bass. XM sounds bad on any stereo in general. The DVDAs sound awesome, but there aren't many that I even care to own ... that is where the stereo shines best though. One compliment I have is that my iPod sounds pretty darn great all things considered. |

I concur on the iPod sounds damn good. So good that I don't use those cds or dvds no more. |

Seems like the sound quality is a little weak at lower volumes (below 8-9). But once you turn it up a bit it sounds amazing regardless of source... so I listen loud.
And like Fab said on Ent. models, make sure ALL speakers are on!!! Huge difference. |

One comparo is when I get in our RDX Tech which has the SAME system, it is MUCH louder due to a smaller cabin size I suppose.
The IPod which I've not gotten into yet is MUCH louder when my partner uses it in the RDX. I've NOT let him try it in the MDX as I don't want him to drive the MDX. He is a typical abusive driver when it comes to cars......I think the MDX system should be stronger since the cabin is larger than the RDX......:1: |

I'm with Rai. I've found the ELS systems sound FAR better than the Bose systems, especially at lower volumes.
The Bose in my '06 RL sounds good as long as it's cranked up there (where it's too loud for me), but the ELS in my TL and my MDX both have a fuller, richer sound all the way up from the lowest volumes.
I think maybe the RL's system renders 5.1 just a tad better than my MDX, but I don't have but a couple of 5.1 CD's anyway so it's not a biggie for me.
As for AM/FM/CD/DVD audio, I will take the ELS over Bose any day. And BTW, the AudioPilot in the Bose system is a waste. It's good to have the SSV back in my MDX.
Maybe the diff is because I don't have the Entertainment Pkg. ...

You want to hear a sound system I have from 1978 that will blow everyone away? They simply don't make them this way anymore! It still sings everyday as I work my 8 hour shift.......
SANSUI baby ! The biggest most collectable unit mother they made called the Sansui "Pure Power" G33000! A collectors unit BIG TIME ! |

Oh yeah 300 watts of pure power per channel! The black bottom unit is the AMP ! Both pieces weigh in at a whopping 143 lbs. and was for ONLY the wealthest folks as each piece cost $12xx.00 eacj! That didn't include speakers, reel to reel, record player and so on, so you do the math and ask who could afford that in 1978 ???????????
I would not complain about the ELS system as there is much garbage out there today! :1: :1: |

I should also point out that the '07 MDX will play MP3 files from a DVD-R, which the '06 RL would not do. And even better, it will apply digital audio processing to the mp3 files, which the RL would only apply to standard CD's.
I remain more impressed with the MDX than with any other auto system I've listened to. I tried the Lexus, but I thought their sound system was mushy and it had no volume control for the center channel (I like to boost the center channel slightly above the midway point, to give lead vocals a little more presence). |

I was 4 years old in 1978, the only power I had was the power dump... |

Now to think of it, I sure could have some use for those Sansui babies that weight a ton: A BARRICADE to my front door entry when we are away from home.

Please don't tell us that thing has vacuum tubes in it. :D
Looks a little like an old Marantz tuner/amp I have stuffed away somewhere in the back of a closet. Seems like the killer sound systems lose their luster when high def TV comes into the house.

It was after the tube era......It will melt any system today. In fact it is hooked up to my modern Sony TV, via comcast cable. It was light years ahead of its time. For those who are clueless about vintage stereo systems which are in DEMAND today more so than ever, chech out Tim's web site, that's correct Tim the man that provides us with OEM parts at www.audiokarma.org....as this is ONE of his many hobbies!
CHECK YOURSELF BEFORE YOUR WRECK YOURSELF ! And no I don't collect JUNKS nor am I a millionare ! I picked this system up for a hell of a deal for an UNDISCLOSED amount of money in 1982. The last one sold on eBay (later part of last year 2006) for $4000.00 or there about........It is a Sanui Mike_Tx as stated in my post...you can google sansui g33000 and read all about it......
LMAO silly..........:4: :4: :4: :4: :4: |
