Rattles when closing rear door - Click HERE for Original Thread

Hello All:

I am posting this because I am completely lost. I just got my 07 MDX and I am hearing a rattle effect when I close the rear doors. It doesn't matter which door (left or right). It sounds like the rattle is coming from the rear hatch like a bracket is loose or something is not bolted. I don't have anything in the back that can make this kind of sound. I am wondering if the 8" factory subwoofer is not mounted correctly. Any feedback would be appreciated. I am going back to the dealer this week to address this issue and hopefully find the fix. It is very annoying to hear rattles when the rear passenger closest their door. Kinda sound like a cheap car!

Thanks

People have complained that the license plate/holder rattles when they close the hatch - I'd check that first.

JL is right. There are two tricks to make this go away: Put Dynamat on the back of hte license plate, and use four screws instead of two to secure the rear plate and holder.
If you do this, it makes closing the hatch sound like closing the door on a Royce. It even cleans up an annoying intrusion into the bass line of the stereo system, although if you didn't hear it before you won't notice it going away..

I noticed this too. I later found out that there are two air vents on each side of the rear. If all of the doors are closed and you open one door and close it you will hear the flaps on the air vent opening and closing. So, this is normal.

The air vents are next to the rear wheels, slightly above the frame.

Thank you for the info. The rattle or flapping sound does come from the rear vents to release the interior pressure. I understand the reasoning, but wish that it makes a much nicer sound like when you shut the door on a European car (thump) sound.

Now that your problem is understood & hopefully resolved soon, would you mind sharing info on making a delightful pork chop for dinner?
