I have been problem free with my 2001 MDX with 117K miles. I took it to the dealership where it's always serviced for its 120K maintenance and I mentioned a noise like whistling sound in low speeds but nothing like the problems mentioned in this forum like shifting problems, shuddering etc. They came back to me with their diagnosis and said that I have transmission problem. I don't have any other symptoms except for the noise. They said that they can replace it with a discounted price of $2100 for a rebuilt one. Should I get this done even though I am not having any other symptoms or is this just a beginning of a pending tranny problem? Thanks.

You should. It's only $2100, really nothing. If you have the money and don't know where to spend, dealer is the best place to go.

I would get a second opinion. You could also check tl.acurazine.com to see if these symptoms are indicative of a bad tranny (check the TL second gen forums). Good luck.

I would suggest to be a little more detail and logical to that dealer, asking them what went wrong.
$2100 for whole tranny replacement is pretty good discount. But it is still pretty large sum of $$ (at least from my perspective...), I wouldn't just open my pocket to the dealer without any detail info. Most of all your X is running fine... who know that you just heard wind-noise or something.... |

I would take it to the Toyota dealer and trade it in for a 4Runner, quick, while the tranny is still running good. Put the $2100 towards the purchase. They have rock solid trannies. That's my post 100K mile plan anyway....
