Hi there,
I'm new to the forum and I do appreciate all your inputs that have made this site wonderful. My question is that if there is a way to set my navi to speak out the street name on every single turn?
Thanks in advance. |

If you have it set for the most detail then you are probably getting all you can out of it.
Mine will tell me about 3/4 of the streets by name whereas my Garmin Nuvi will tell me almost every street by name. |

Thanks, Ron.
But do I do it through the Navi menu or the dial?

I am not sure what you are asking.
If you are asking about the the detail setting, it is under the Setup for the Navigation system.
You need to choose the right option and I cannot remember the exact setting. If you cannot find it, I will head out to my truck to refresh my memory and post back.
Let me know. |

The Navi will speak out every turn if you set the Guidance mode to Max. .
THe only thing that modifies this statement is that sometimes the street name is too complicate, so the Navi says something like "Turn Left on Freeway" rather than "Turn left on the St Charles Memorial Highway".
There is an option in Menu or Setup that changes the number of times and the distance at which you are alerted to an upcoming turn, from Minimum to Maximum. At Mac, you get an alert at a mile, a half mile, and a quarter mile if I recall. |

Thanks again for your responses. I set the guidance to maximum now and will try to see what happens the next couple days. My goal is to have it tell the name of the street on every single turn on a trip.
But I do notice that for 90% of the time, except for major highways, it only says either take the next right or left turn. When I'm on local streets, I can't recall it saying the street names at all. Do you think it's normal or an individual problem?

| You know, now that you describe it, that is the normal behaviour of hte Navi. It says "Take the next left turn", more often than not. You don't have a problem- I have a problem wiht my memory. |

That is a normal problem for me. Most of the time I can't recall what I ate last night, let alone the street names I just passed by. :D |

| I am thinking this is a geographical issue, I don't seem to have this issue in Phoenix. |

Well, I'll be darned. I wasn't aware the nav would speak the names of streets for turns. But the manual says so right there in black and white. Just set the guidance prompt level to "Max".
We live and learn. Now, I gotta go see if my RL does that, too!

When I am in Maryland, where I live, almost all street names except a couple major highways will not be spoken out for turns. I am spending my vacation now in Toronto, Canada with my X and it seems randomly speaking the street names for turns. I did set my navi to maximum guidance right before the trip. Does anyone knows why?
I just don't get it why it would speak some street names but not the others???
