Anyone has good suggestion on good tasting wine that doesn't empty wallet?
My price range is from $5.99 to $23.99. I love to get a case full at a time when I found something that I can enjoy. Just good tasting wine. |

| Try Trader Joe's. I'm not too sure about Two Buck Chuck but we've had a couple of excellent $5-6 wines. |

That's where my wife is going to regular on her wine testing adventures. Sometime its good sometime its not so good. But for $2.99 ~ $5.99 Its a good trade off for testing. |

I agree completely. I like to pick up a handful of bottles and test them out.
Another thing we do every once in a while is have 4-6 friends over, everyone brings a bottle (you have to assign a type to each person) that costs around $10, and we have a wine tasting night. This is a great way to find a wine you like.
If you do it at your house, then you can get trashed and not have to drive home :2: |

| Boone's Farm - Strawberry Hill or Night Train with a Kool Aid packet does the trick for me :D |

You should check out this thread for suggestions on how to find wines that you like:

It would be easier to recommend specific wines if we knew more about your tastes. Are you looking for white or red? Any varietals or regions that you like (or not)? What kind of food do you like to eat? Are you looking for something to quaff at parties or enjoy with a nice dinner? |

Wow!!! With some of the wines I see mentioned on here all I can picture in my mind is the old guy in the trench coat drinking out of the bottle hidden in the paper bag.

Hmmm, I think I'll give that a shot. Best for Cali for only $2.00 Can't beat that. |

It isn't that bad for an everyday kind of wine. I prefer others, but they are much more expensive. |

I'm now told it's Three Buck Chuck in my area.
If you could have communion with white wine, it'd be great. But if you plan on drinking more than 1 ml, it's worth the extra dollar or two for something else. The alcohol overwhelms the grapes in a cough syrup sort of way. |

I am not sure what the cost is here, I haven't had it for a while. I prefer red wines over whites, mostly cabs and merlots.
I have never had a white 2 buck chuck |

| Don't laugh but here in the Carolinas there is a very inexpensive wine that rivals $100/bottle wines. It is called Barefoot and has won many awards. Most are priced at less than $8. Their merlot in particular is a 8 medal winner up against some impressively expensive merlots. Oh yeah and Blackstone merlot is another under $10 bottle to try..very smooth |

Interesting, I don't believe I have seen that out here (in Arizona)... and we are one of the states that you can't ship wine too :(
But you can buy a pistol with out a permit, and tuck in your waistband... no issues there. Go figure... |

A little background on state fair wine tastings - these are primarily marketing events for the wine region, not critical tastings. It ain't like the olympics where only one wine receives gold. Any wine that scores within a given range will receive gold, and many, many do. In fact, average wines that are meant for mass-market appeal (read: Two-buck Chuck) have a better chance of scoring highly than more interesting wines. See this article for a decent criticism of wine judging events:
http://www.chow.com/stories/10646
If you are looking for a cheap wine that won't offend, by all means go with Two-buck Chuck. If you want to branch out to discover more interesting wines, get to a wine store in your area that you trust, ask them to put together a mixed case of wines for you to try, and go from there. There are plenty of excellent wines from all over the world that will blow away the Chuck for a reasonable price. Try some German Reislings (Dr. Loosen or JJ Prum should be available in your area), some Chiantis from a good producer like Antinori, New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs (Cloudy Bay is very nice), French Cote du Rhone or Languedoc....
After all, anyone discriminating enough to buy an MDX shouldn't be drinking the wine equivalent of a Ford Taurus.:D |
|
|
| mdxx3 |
A Ford Taurus must be 70 to 75 points (or something unrated) while the MDX must be 88 to 91 points.
Yeah... +1 on the non-Taurus bottles. Just get the $20 bottle and drink less (if it costs twice as much, maybe just drink half as much). |

| Come to Fab's place and he'll introduce you to some local wines that are less than 13.00 a bottle and superb! Grown right here too ! I hope this is the correct area to post............ |

| Banrock Stanton. Relatively cheap, great. They make a good Shiraz, and their Cabernet Sauvignon is similar. |
