I drive my '06 RL and '07 MDX interchangeably, and whereas the RL has kinda weak-feeling brakes, the MDX's binders will stand it on its nose!
And going back and forth, I always find I almost rearend people at first when I get in the RL (not good), and then when I get in the X, I throw everything in the floorboard on the first stop.
I'd prefer that Acura had split the difference - make the RL's brakes a little grippier, and tone down those anchors on the X! :D

When driving the RL do not wait so late to brake. Start slowing earlier.
I find the MDX brakes just right.

LOL. Yeah, I adjust pretty quickly, but the first time I brake, it sometimes surprises me a little. With both cars.
But, considering the weight of the X, the brakes really do take a bite, and that's nothing but a good thing. I wish the RL's brakes were a little more aggressive.

Thank you captain obvious!
In the spirit of G. COLTON, I have some tips for you too!
If you leave your windows down when it rains, the inside of your car will get wet.
Don't pee into the wind.
Don't eat yellow snow.
That ought to do it for today, tune in tomorrow when we discuss things not to do with a sledgehammer!

You forgot 2 Colton classics:
When soembody under warranty asks questions, he always tells them to take it to the dealer.
Whenever a new owner posts a new member thread and another member asks for pics, he replies to go to the Acura website or if they've never seen an MDX before. |

| I love those brakes on MDX. Just right. It feel like expensive German machine. Just the right pressure and the right feel. |

| My 04 RL's brakes will send you thru the dashboard when compared to my 07 X. Never drove that newer RL (05-06-07) that reminds me of an Accord on steroids......   |

| I think all MDX will need is to paint the caliper RED to complete that High Tech Mean sport machine look like on Porsche and BMW. Thinking of that, maybe I out to do that. |

Mike_TX,
Perhaps its the type of brake pads that are on your RL that is causing your mushy feel. Not sure when you last had them changed but I'm sure that if you changed to some performance type brake pad you could balance it out a tad.
Until then... Leave the RL in the garage and enjoy the X :) |

Thanks - the RL's brakes are apparently set up that way on purpose, to impart a more gentle, luxurious feel as opposed to a stop-on-a-dime sporty feel.
Don't get me wrong ... they stop fine, but it just takes a more "deliberate" application of the brakes to get there. Much the same as on my wife's Caddy STS and similar luxury cars.
BTW, some of the people on the RL forum have tried aftermarket brake pads, with varying results. Most of them throw off so much brake dust it isn't worth the effort!
