Hi Everyone,
I wanted to thank you all. Your advice has been very valuable in research and negotiations over the last month.
Finally Closed the deal yesterday.
Question:
Anybody have thoughts on pre paid maintenance through the dealer?
For $1,176 all maintenance is covered through my lease term of 36 months. Oil changes, tire rotations, balance, alignment etc...
If you follow it, they will give "tires for life".
It adds about $35/mo to my payment. |

If it is a 36 month lease, assuming 36,000 miles, you shouldn't need new tires.
The big question that you need to ask your self, is what would the actual maintenance cost. On a 36,000 mile lease, not $1100.
You have 8-10 oil changes max, and some air filters, maybe a tranny and radiator flush. At the most, you may spend close to that amount.
The biggest thing is will you use it? I find my self getting my oil changed near my house, rather than going to the dealer, because it is way out of my way.
I would definitely not do this at that price, maybe half that cost. |

I forgot to mention, I have 15k miles per year on the lease. Based on previous experiences, I will probably be at about 50k miles by end of 36 months.
How many sets of tires (Bridgestone Duelers) would be used for 50k miles? |

based on previous experience have you spent $1200 for 50K miles? It's hard to imagine, but if you need tires and brakes it's may be more than that.
I never get pre-paid service contracts since you never know if you will need to spend that much (I doubt it) and what if you don't like the dealer service department? |

Or the car is stolen or totaled? It's just insurance. I would take my chances and pass on this. |

Even so, you could get buy with one set, but it depends on how you drive them.
I agree with everyone else. At best, you are just paying for all of your service up front. |

| at $35/month for 36 months, it actually ends up at $1260, another reason to say no... |

Click and Clack ran a column on a deal like this a while ago. They were not in favor of it.
With any extended or prepaid warranty, remember they sell them because they make $$ off them.
I'd personally take the $1260 and stick it in a savings account at 5%. I'll be in three years you still have around $400 left (at least). |
