Has anyone tried to put a child's bike (i.e., a 16" model for a 5-7 year old) in the Acura roof mounted bike rack and does it fit? If not, any suggestions for a rack that works with the MDX and can accommodate one adult bike and one or two children's bikes?

Thanks!:)

I currently carry two adult bikes and two 20" child bikes (one of them is a trail-a-bike) on the Yakima roof rack mounted on my MDX. I did previously carry 16" child bike on the roof as well.

I believe the Acura "jaw" type roof rack that clamps around the frame is similar to the Yakima carriers I use for the child bikes. The key in determining whether your child bike will fit is the design of the bike frame (and the size of the clamping jaw on your bike carrier).

If your frame is made of round (or even slight oval-shaped) tubing, you should have no problem fitting the bike. If, however, the bike frame is more flat and fairly wide, then it may not fit into the rack clamping jaw, and you will have to utilize a different way to carry the bike.

Good luck.

Thanks for the feedback. Decided to go with a rear-mounted Yakima King Joe 3 instead. Really came down to price - $140 for the King Joe vs $400+ for all the tracks and gear I would have needed to roof mount three bikes.

Tried it for the first time this weekend and it worked fine. Relatively easy to mount and stable - didn't lose any bikes on the road. Worked for my daughter's 16" wheel bike (about $30), but required a cross-bar/adapter for the frame. My son's 12" bike was just too small - no big deal, it will just go in the back.
