| My wifes 04 MDX has had a problem with the A/C. I note this vehicle does have about 100,000 miles on it. I took it into Acura and they are saying a line is leaking. I have had many Hondas and never this problem, in fact my last 4 vehicles with automatic climate control (98 Accord, 02 TL and 04 and 06 MDXs), except now the 04. Although the mileage is high, this seems premature.Big dollars too, $500 just for the part. Anyone else have this problem, as I have not seen this in the problem base. Anyone get relief?? |

That is a lot of miles for an 04. And yes, mileage does have a bearing on leaks such as you reporting. There is some amount of vibration associated with each of those miles. Those a/c lines have an infinitesimal amount of flex with each vibration or minute bump. After sufficient numbers it will start to leak.
Depending upon the amount of leak you may want to live with it. You can replace a lot of freon for $500 plus labor.

| Since you're out of warranty anyway, maybe you can get it inspected by an independent AC specialist and get a quote. |

$500 for an AC line?? You are not replacing the compressor, right?
My previous old Mercedes did leak after 50,000 miles but German is not known for making good AC cause they don't even need it. US & Japanese cars usually have excellent AC system but it's normal to have leak after 100,000 miles, I would take it to the local AC or mechanic shop for a quote. It's very easy to charge the feon yourself (like $6 per can & $20 for the charging kit) but the leaking is killing our ozone layer.:9: |

Well, I could live with it as it is my Wifes vehicle, however old hot flash, would be pretty ugly when she got home from work. Note we are getting Florida weather in July (read hot and humid), and it has to be repaired.
I had it repaired today and the quote was better than I thought, just under $500 including labour. It was just the line.
I guess my point is that I have had many Honda vehicles, with much higher mileage, and have never had this problem, not even a compressor, other than just having to recharge my 92 Accord. |
