car hesitates and feels like it wants to stall when I'm going 25-30mph. Took it to the dealer & they say I need a new tranny. I'm way past the regular warranty but they tell me it will be at no cost for parts or labor.
Are there really that many issues with the tranny on the 01 models?
I've had several issues with my 01 and think once my extended warranty expires I'm gonna get a new vehicle. Not leaning towards an acura though. Too many issues for the $$ I spent. |

| My 01 needed it replaced about the same time - no issues since. Same symptom you describe too. |

Yes, there are that many issues with the 2001/2002 model year trannies. It's good that they are picking up the entire cost, some owners aren't getting full reimbursement. Your 2001 was a first model year of an entirely new vehicle for Honda - more than the normal amount of issues are expected in a first year design.
There are 5 vehicles rated higher in predicted quality than the MDX of the 47 vehicles in it's category. 2 are Toyota's, 1 is a Lexus, 1 is an Infiniti, and 1 is a Honda. And Toyota's recently starting having transmission problems. I wouldn't rule out a new MDX if reliability is a concern - Acura has had 8 model years to work out the bugs. Here are the top 8 of the 47 from CR: |

I also had a problem with 2001 MDX trans. @68,000 mi. Took it to Parkavenue Acura in NJ.(Reserved a courtesy vehicle ahead of time) They checked all recalls on my MDX I am the second owner) and all were done (including 2nd gear trans. recall)
I was given a courtesy 2007 MDX vehicle while they checked out trans. I was having "jutter" problems(earlier post) with my 2001 at 2nd gear.
Next day (Scott) called and said I needed a NEW transmission.
He contacted Acura and they agreed to replace it for FREE. I would have to pay labor $1500 and agreed. This could result of the lawsuit that a customer won against Acura(see this board) and set a precedent for future customers. Two weeks later and use of a free 2007 MDX I picked up my 2001. It now runs great!!!! with new warranty.I know labor charge was high but Heh I have a new trans.
