I own a 2002 MDX with 100K miles. I started noticing that occasionally I will hear a sound that resembles running over rumble strips. This road buzz happens randomly at different speeds and road conditions.
I took it into the dealership and they told me that my torque converter needed to be replaced. Has anyone else have this problem? I was quoted $2500 to replace the torque converter which is outrageous! Is this something that can be done on your own? I have a friend who's mechannically inclinded and has every tool in the book.
Thanks.

Rumble strips may be the transmission. Do a search here on rumble strips and see if you can find anything. Good luck. Either way, it does not sound good. |

| Last time I looked, the TC itself is worth close to $2K, so I guess the $500 is labor. I'm keeping tabs on mine coz last time I had the ATF analyzed, there was a lot of aluminum, which can signify problems with the TC. I've heard it said that if you're gonna replace the TC, might as well replace the whole tranny since it might go soon afterwards on an older X, but this is just hearsay. Good luck. |

| I own a 2005 MDX which I paid off the day I started having the same problem as you are describing. I thought I was going nuts, until I read your post. I took my car in, and they are going to replace my torque converter. Luckily, i have the 100,000 mile warrantey so it is all covered. I'm glad I read that others were having this problem, so I didnt think it was just me! |
