2002 Pricing - Click HERE for Original Thread

My employer has a service that recommends local dealers and has "deals" with them. Can get a 2002 for $500 under MSRP, without any forced options, with delivery in Dec. Is that a reasonable price to pay? If I look hard, can I get a better price?

Do any dealers negotiate price, or is it "take it or leave it"?

What is reasonable to pay for dealer paperwork, like to register car?
rogmandude
That is the exact deal i got..$500 below invoice with Oct./Nov. delievery..probably is about the best you are going to do on pricing at this point
wmquan
$500 off of MSRP (not invoice) for a 2002 also offsets most if not all of a price increase in the 2002's, so that works out quite well!

Yep, $500 isn't much in the overall scheme of things but glad you're getting it.

Hey rogmandude -- do you mind telling me the name of the service you went through?

Jump on it! You won't get any better with supply still being what it is (on '02 model anyway). Was this "Buyers Edge" or other program?

Thanks,

After reading the post by lester123 about a $500 discount, it dawned on me that Sam's Club has an auto buying service. Sam's Club is similiar to Costco for those that do not know what Sam's is.

I called Sam's club and discovered that depending on the state (and dealership) you can buy an MDX for below MSRP using your Sam's Club membership. The woman I spoke to said that her son works at a N.C. dealer and has sold 11 this month "well below" MSRP. All dealers that agree to take Sam's Club buyers have committed to honoring a certain price point. She also admitted that many states dealers do not honor the agreement when it comes to discounting an MDX.

Unfortunately, in Texas, I can't be advised what the "agreed price" is because of "brokerage state" legislation here. I have placed a call with the dealer's rep but have not received a return call yet. Turns out it is the same dealership I am working with anyway.

All those that are members of these wholesale clubs may want to check with them to see if you can get a discount - it doesn't hurt to try.

Thanks TexRb - even if you're not a member yet, you might as well join if you can save a few hundred...

I don't think you'll see $1,000 off until next spring as the supply catches up with demand. However, if the stock market and the economy continue to perform as well as they have been recently you never know. The demand for $35K SUVs may go down????

Yeah, they said this week was the worst week for the market since March.
davegood
Well, at least you should be able to get a low interest rate on a car loan......

When rates are this low, you're better borrowing money than paying cash for it...
AtlantaMDX
Wow, I missed the first message. $500 off MSRP for a 2002. That's great if you can get it now!

As for Sam's Club/Costco. Do you have to pay anything extra for the car buying part, or is that just part of the regular membership?
texrb
I am a member of Sam's club - have been for years - just never thought to use the car buyers option until now.

Atlanta - no extra cost - it's part of the reg membership

What's always driven me crazy by these buying club affiliations is how dealerships can find ways to make exceptions. It was like that when the Acura TL was hot around here and there was some loophole that you couldn't use a Costco car-buying discount. If you can find one that actually works with the MDX, you may want to take advantage of it before the dealerships try to close that discount.

The last time I tried to look into MDX pricing through the COSTCO program, I think i was told that the MDX was not part of the discount program. This was a couple of months ago.

I just tried again and will post my findings here.

I made a request thru Costco program today. I live in the SF Bay Area, and the dealer Costco chose is Stevens Creek Acura. They are supposed to contact me in 24 hrs. I'll post the findings.

Another thing I forgot to mention is that some participating dealerships, to get around selling the vehicle for a $500 discount below SMRP, just play the wait game, delaying the order forever. While they sell the incoming vehicles for above MSRP and/or with forced accessories. I hope Costco, Sam's Club, etc. work out for you but some dealers are always tricky.

I called the Sam's club contact person at David McDavid (Plano) Friday and left a message to return my call. I have had no return call yet. I will post any findings if I do hear from them.

FWIW the dealer has guaranteed me $500 in free assessories because I am a repeat customer - I have bought 2 Acuras from this dealership & an Accord from their Honda store. My son has also bought an Integra GSR from them.

I found out that another dealer will also give me $500 in free assessories on an '01, but not an '02.

I am curious to see if the "Sam's Club" price is the same as what I have been offered already with no mention of Sam's Club.

I placed my order from a dealer that was recommended by my Credit Union's service; however when I requested a quote via Autobytel, the dealer also quoted $500 under mfg list but would have to wait until Feb (only 2 dealers in Cincinnati, OH)
RedRock
lester123,
i also put down a $500 deposit on a redrock pearl on 08/31. i got it at superior acura in fairfield, gary was the salesman's name. is that a good dealership? i live in dayton and have never been there; i just phoned him based on your initial thread. he quoted me at $34850 - $500(sams club discount) for a 2002. he also priced the cargo tray, wheel locks, and rear mud guards for $150. is there anything else that you got out of them?

just an update.......

David McDavid has not return my call yet, so I called them and again had to leave a message for the Sam's contact person.

Based on Redrock's post - it appears as a Sam's Club member I can get $500 off an '02 & use the '01 price as a base. That appears to be better than I can get as a repeat customer, which is $500 of free asssessories and still have to pay the '02 price (whatever that is).

Will post if I am offered a better deal than $500 off '01 pricing for '02.
texrb
Update
Just spoke with the Sam's Club rep at David McDavid Acura and he advised me that the repeat customer price will be better than the Sam's Price - but failed to quote specific prices on an '02 stating until he has Acura's '02 pricing - he didn't want to quote a price.

So - it looks like back to square one. No order is accepted at the dealer for '02 until they know the MSRP, new residuals, money factor from AHFC, and projected build dates. At least that makes sense - they don't want to take a deposit until they know the specifics for '02 models.

Looks like, depending on the state & dealer, a buying club may or may not be a help.
wexy99
Just checked with Costco auto program and the MDX is still not part of their buying service :(

Thanks for the Autobytel and Sams club info... :)
rt909
Just checked with Costco here in DC Metro. MDX is not included in the Auto Program.

Damn.. we are almost mid September and still no pricing or vehicle changes updates from Acura.. I can't bite my nails any more..
metmdx
That's because Acura knows they have you by the &@!!$ and don't have to give out this info any earlier. They just add to the feeding frenzy that way !

Acura just release the 2002 CL Pricing, which went up by $50.00 .. I am not sure how the 2002 is different from the 2001. Should the trend follow, there should be very slight increase in the price (at least, I wish) of the 02 MDX.:)
RGWomack
I still don't have 2002 MDX prices. Based on past vehicle increases I don't expect much of an increase. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something. However, I usually find information on this website before I get it.

Classic good news/bad news quote.....Good news is that most of the info in these forums is on target....bad news is that Acura tries to keep everyone (including it's dealers) in the dark for as long as it can.....when will it end????

Any hot rumors on the 2002 pricing as yet??
JPOW
I checked with both COSTCO and BJ's in the PA area and neither of them have included the MDX in their program as of yet. I was told that it is not uncommon for a car to be excluded during its first year of introduction. That being the case, I would assume that it would be added to their ptogrmas since the 02's are due out very shortly.

TECK!

Teck --

Glad to see that you have a healthy attitude about the whole thing -- there's nothing really else to do about that previous situation other than to just laugh at it.
-=Ice-T=-
please do, i want to know how much of a difference it can really make
lester123
This subject never came up in my discussion with dealer. I paid $20 for my previous car so I didn't feel it was important. Any idea what dealers are charging for this? Is this an area where they can also "stick it to you"?
