| I am still pretty new to the site - so forgive if I missed the thread. I have searched, but can't find the national average installation times to install the MDX accessories. I am trying to get an idea of the cost to install based on getting accessories from Tim (for those I don't want to try to install). If anybody knows the thread with installation times I would appreciate it or knows how to best obtain these times? Thanks |

| Most of us who self-installed just gave the approx times in the individual threads, so there's no "master list" (good idea tho). Which accessories do you want to know about...just rattle them off and we'll let you know. |

Rear Flaps 15-20 Min with a short screwdriver and a small drill not removing the wheels
Running boards 2-3 hrs including assembly need ratchet and boxed end wrench also extentions. I used my air ratchet makes it about 2 hrs.
Tow package 1-2 hrs without putting the coolers in You need 2 people this is a heavy one. Ratchets sockets and torque bar. The coolers I believe will take from 2-4 hrs
Wheel locks 10 min;) |

Steering Wheel - dealer recommended (airbag, you need steering wheel puller). I am aware of one person doing it himself. Search for steering wheel. 1 hour.
Tail gate Deflector - easy self-install. 1 hour.
Moon Visor - easy self-install. 30 minutes.
Front Air Deflector - ?
Fender Flares - search for "fender flares" with member "DMor"
Side Steps - easy self-install; took me 2 hours (could do in 1 1/4 hour if I had a lift in the garage). Like rodzir said, you need a ratchet w/extension and box wrench. Not hard, just lots of bolts.
Gold Emblem - ?
Gold Grill Insert - I *think* this requires removing front-end parts. check instructions at www.hondacuraworld.com and decide
Goold Exhaust - looks pretty easy to me.
Wood Trim - easy self install. 15 minutes for Acura-only on the gauge cluster. woodtrim.com or exoticwooddash is closer to an hour (more pieces).
Wood Shift Knob - easy self install. 2 minutes.
Dealers is tossing in Wheel Locks, Cargo Cover, and Splash Guards.
Any Info will be appreciated [/B][/QUOTE] |

| The first time takes the longest - by the time you put on your 3rd or 4th tailgate deflector you'll have it down to about 15 minutes! :) |

| Is ghost now subcontracting his labor to MDX owners who do not want to install their own accessories? :) |

... I agree; rear flaps about 15 minutes or so.
Roof rack about 30 minutes or so. |

You guys are not counting the cocktails, neighborhood interruptions, HD runs for the part you don't have, and the time to install something backasswards :o. Plus you have to account for the "standback" time you take to admire the heck out of those SHINY Maniks...one side at a time. And of course, for some of you...the time to call the 800# to reorder the BOLTS (post stripping) and you know who you are.
I think out of ALL my installs...the tailgate deflector was the fastest and scariest. Drilling into the X was just a little hairy...but pretty EZ once I got over the initial *gulp*. Look Ma, 20 minutes and no burrs! :)
The Flares were EZ but took several hours because I did some extra "custom fitting" because I am anal. :) I probably posted the time in my thread...but currently don't remember. The flaps are fast but require one of those short 'z' shaped screwdrivers.
Oh and the most important thing! The PICS! You have to post pics or it doesn't count. :) It's highly possible that you will spend nearly as much time taking/sizing/organizing and posting your pics as the original install. Plus, because of this forum...I had to take time to SHOP for my digital camera. :)
Then there's the time for the nails to grow back  |

There's no shame in driving for a week with only one side step on (for those that remember Stepless-In-Atlanta). And we men can't help it if we're so strong we strip those week threads off the Manik Bolts :) And I never put my steps on backward (Thanks to DMor's example....) Remember the Manik Door Ding Protectors Pic that was posted under DMor's thread.... too funny....
I gotta agree that drilling the holes for the Tailgate Deflector, while in the end pretty easy, was very nerve racking. (What do you mean, I can't "undo" this.... what if I mess up?!?!)
I've been slow to post pics.... Maybe I'll have to remedy that this weekend if the sun ever comes out. :)
DMor, thanks for brining up some good memories... :) |
