Canon sales rep at Samys usually keeps me posted with new line of canon product. Obviously he is slower than you. Man this 1Ds Mark III makes my current 1D MArk III (10 megapixel) looks like the thing of the past. Didn't read the whole page but I'm sure the 300,000 cycle shuttle & 10 frames/s comes with this new 1Ds. Hopefully they'll be able to cut down some weight, cause my 1D weights a ton. Thanks for the info.

P.S. That's why I still dig the 20D/30D.... muy muy lighter. Also I've already placed my order for the 40D. Picking this up 1st or 2nd week of Sept. 1Ds Mark III might have to be on next year's X-Mas list.

What I meant to say on the above post regarding the canon 40D is to take pictures of my new MDX 07. I need a higher resolution camera to take close-up shots as well as exterior shots of the X. gmc74, would you use the 30D to take your MDX as well?

gmc, as far as my canon 30D, I think it's better for you to get the 40D. I have a friend in Samys. He can match any price. On top of this, he'll pay for the tax. I'm paying 40D $1,399 OTD no tax. Heard some great things about the 40D. Can't wait for my new baby to come home.

I will probably go for something (relatively) cheap to start with, like a Nikon D40. I waste so much money on electronics and gadgets, getting a $1000 camera is not going to make for a happy wife.
BTW, speaking of gadgets, I just installed my new Sirius Stiletto in my MDX. I didn't want to "stick" it to the dash, or drill any holes, so I actually stuck it to the top of the Acura ashtray (it goes in the cup holder) that I bought. It works perfectly! |

40D suppose to be a great advancement from 30D. A lot of issue has been address and its close to 1D as ever for fraction of the price.

Sounds like you're obsesses with your MDX or just looking for a reason to get the 1D that super mega pixel resolution. Personally, I think a XTi with a set of nice lens will give you enough resolution on a sharp Canon pictures in pro like quality.

Ok, so here are some pics
This is a Sirius Stiletto with a car kit and the Acura cup holder ashtray as the mounting point.
I am using the Aux input rather than FM modulator, because of the better sound quality.

Here is the view from passenger side. I ran the wires down to the floor.
The Aux goes back up and into the arm rest. The power goes to the back of the armrest console and plugs in to the 2nd row DC port and the Antenna wire goes under the rear floor mat, under the seats, and to the back. |

The car kit came with a mount with tape on the bottom. It is a flexible mount, so it fits the contours of the ash tray. |

The best part is that it is kept together very well, you can still open and close the ashtray
It can fit in either cup holder, but you do sacrafice one. There is enough play in it where I can take it out and sit it on the passenger floor if I need both cup holders (probably can get it to the super secret passenger compartment below the cup holders when not in use). |

I'm just like you. Can not justify of spending on a camera for more then $1000 for casual personal usage with myself or the wife. I'm cross shopping between XTi and S5. I'm also very interest in the 30D and hoping the price to go down again once 40D starting selling. The only thing that is hold me back is Price and I love to be able to shoot MOVIE with my camera as well.

That is the same boat I am in, it is hard to justify. I find it easy to justify the tons of $$ I waste on computers and other electronic devices, but for some reason, I can't justify a grand on a camera... I do wish I had one for the trip I am taking to the Grand Canyon tomorrow, but I guess the 4.1 megapixel Sony will have to due. |

Another place I've ordered from is French Market foods at www.fmfoods.com they are in Lake Charles Louisiana and Joey's is in Lafayette Louisiana, both in Cajun country....If you ever drive thru Lake Charles, stop at Popeye's Fried chicken, ITS THE BEST !
btw: fmfoods.com has pork boudin stuffed turducken......I ONLY recommend "Pork Boudin" as its the ORIGINAL as my fathers says.....I'm not wild about crawfish boudin etc........:28: Best way to eat crawfish is FRESH and by boiling it. You know those Turkey fryers? Those are Crawfish boils that have been around for 50 plus years in Louisiana....Crawfish Etoufee is outrageous but you need the fat and it must be fresh.....that when they say: Pinch me, suck me, eat me...........:6: :6: :6: |
