It was one hell of a game. At the same time you want to see the Pats go for that perfect season, you want to see the Giants who made it over the Packers climb to victory.
Congrats to NY! |

The catch by David Tyree will now be in shown in similar highlights as "the catch" by the SF 49er's Dwight Clark.
That was one of the best athletic catches ever and a great game to watch. |

I love it! "Relatively easy"?
So how does 18-1 feel K? |

Congrats labor, that was a great game!
The Giants sure looked better than when we (Vikings) beat them 41-17 earlier this year (and that was with kneeling it down at the goal line instead of going up 48-17 towards the end). The Vikes seem to bring out the worst of Eli for some reason.
Oh how I wish we had even a serviceable quarterback! |

Giants played the game of their lives. They won it the old fashioned way, in the trenches. Hard to believe that the Pats offensive line is headed to the Pro Bowl after last night. Pats offensive game plan was terrible. No screens, no draws no protection.
Go Celtics! |

Well, I wasn't all that shocked by the out come, I bet the money line and made a fair amount on this one.
I am not sure why, but I was shocked by the classless act of Bellechick walking off the field before the game was over. Yes, one meaningless snap is all that was left, but rules are rules (not that they haven't been known to break those before), and that classless bastard should have walked back to the sideline.
The only disappointment that I have is we still have to watch the old guys in Miami pop the cork each year, but I guess that is better than listening to the Patriots fans do it.
The undefeated regular season is nothing more than a moral victory with out the Superbowl win. |

Now that I am over my shock of how badly Pats were prepared for this game, here are my opinions of the game. First and foremost, I salute the Giants. This was a great defensive game and Giants outplayed the Pats hands down. They deserved to win and I am happy for them.
Second reaction is that Pats were uncharacteristically unprepared. Everyone and their grandmother knew that Giants would mound an incredible defensive effort and play smashmouth football except the Pats. Brady had no time to throw the ball. I'd like to ask those overpaid offensive coaches why they did not adjust?? When your offensive line is being overpowered, you go to plan B. Instead Pats abandoned one of the few things that was going for them: the RUNNING game. Despite their relative success in running the ball, they abandoned it in the second half. Also, why for god sake did they not go to a hurry up offense in second half. If the Giants D line was so successful, you go to a no huddle game plan and throw short screen passes that does not require your O line to protect your QB for extended periods of time. Pats used no slant routes, short screen passes, and did not attempt to run the ball in the second half and rightfully lost. Also there were other strategic errors like going for it on the 4th down in a defensive game instead of trying the 49 yd field goal (and the kicker could have made it in a closed stadium).
So, I don't want to hear about the genious of Bellichick anymore. In my book, he is the main factor why Pats lost. |

It was symbolic. He's already in the locker room while his team is on the field. |

I agree about the classlessness of Bellechick. That along with the stealing signals and now they are being investigated for stealing signals in a previous Super Bowl. He needs to kicked out of football. The Pats Super Bowls and season will have an asterisk by them just like Barry Bonds.

Here are some of my favorite quotes from this board over the course of the last few months. I will start with the one that was accurate -
quote: All I want is a shot at it. Just no blowout. Maybe down 4 with the ball and 2 minutes left.
Laborlitigator 1-23-2008
Right on!
And now for the humble pie, Maik edition... though his quotes are less than accurate, he doesn't have as clouded of a view as the person that we will quote at the end.
quote: I remember a couple of years ago discussing on this board, maybe even this thread, whether the Pats were a "dynasty".
Not much of a descussion as the Pats put the finishing touches on one of the greatest seasons ever by a team.
Maik 12-10-2007
The great seasons end with a ring...
quote: 19-0 here we come.
Maik 12-19-2007
quote: Gints won't beat the Cowboys.
Maik 1-9-2008
quote: OK...their little run ends Sunday at Green Bay.
Pats will beat the Bolts setting up a Favre vs Brady Superbowl.
Maik 1-14-2008
quote: OK...Pats will win Super Bowl.
Maik 1-21-2008
Ouch, one bad prediction after another
quote: And as for the 1972 Phins, they had a great defense and one of the best, if not the best running game of all time. Additionally, they played an extremely weak schedule. Only one regular season game against a team that ended up with a winning record.
Maik 1-22-2008
Ummm, Pats played Miami, NYJ, Buf twice each, Cinci, Wash, Balt, Phili... I wouldn't call this a strong schedule, I believe this would be an extremely weak schedule.
quote: Watchout for the blowout!
Maik 1-28-2008
I was watching for it, and like the Patriots undefeated season, it never happened...
The good news is that Maik, though a slight homer (and who could blame him) has a grip on reality, unlike our next contestant...
I now present Homer keremoner
quote: Ahhh, finally the Pats that we (Pats fans) all love are back. I am still counting on 19-0 while breaking all or most significant records in books (points, TDs, receptions by Moss, completion %, etc.)
Keremoner 12-10-2007
Well, they broke some records, but the only thing that matters didn't happen.
quote: Since they wil be visiting the Pats, I am not too worried except for Indy which I believe is the only team out there that has any realistic chances of beating the Pats.
Keremoner 12-31-2007
Close, wrong Manning
quote: Wrong again Maik. I said watch out for Giants. Now that they are in the SB, they are through winning. Forget about Brady's cold weather mistakes. They will win relatively easily in Arizona. Hello 19-0 and immortality in NFL history!!!
Keremoner 1-20-2008
I think you should have listened to your own advice...
quote: Giants are playing inspired football at the moment and will not roll over and play dead.
That being said, I think that their chances are slim to none. Reasons:
Pats diversity of weapons and strategies is overwhelming for any team. It is the only team that you can neutralize their top 4-5-6 weapons and they still can successfully find a way to beat you. They are savy, extremely well prepared, and driven by a purpose like no one else. They can even have Brady and the defense (anywhere else on the field other than the red zone) be performing poorly like on Sunday and still win by 9 points. This is exactly why they are undisputedly the best team ever in NFL history. 72 Dolpins (or anyone else for that matter) could never claim that. Can you imagine the great 49er teams of the 80's being so dominant if Rice was virtually not playing and Montana sucking air? Or the Bears, Steelers, etc?? These other teams were great but none was so versatile and had so many ways to beat you till now. All this at the post free agency period on top of it (when dynasties were supposed to be dead for good). This is why I laugh when I read experts debating the greatness issue. 19-0 is not the issue. It is how you win the games. '72 Dolpins went 14-0 but if you study history of the game, they were very single faceted (defense oriented). Pats are the only team in NFL history who could claim "pick any 4-5 of our stars and we will still beat you without them"
Hats off to the Pats.
Keremoner – 1-22-2008
At least the first line was accurate, the rest of it seemed to be inspired by the crack pipe.
quote: Here is the next prediction: Pats
Pats 38
Giants 24
Keremoner – 1-22-2008
quote:
This may actually quite a streak for Boston area. Sox, Pats, Celtics and in November another Boston win over NY (Mitt Romney over Hillary)
Keremoner 1-28-2008
Don't give up your day job.... |

| keremoner |
My predictions have been quite on compared to your rantings in the past. Admittedly, I was wrong on the SB and so were 90% of experts because you could not have looked at the season and the strengths of Pats and predicted such a melt down. Pats had a lousy game plan and did not adjust at all. Even a football rookie would know that they should have kept their running attack up in the second half as well as going to a no huddle passing offense of short screen passes (as well as going for the 49 yd FG in an indoor stadium in a defensive game). Bellichick stunk and lost my respect. Of course, none of this detracts from the great game Giants played. They were clearly better prepared and Pats were both outplayed and out coached.
Maybe you should have bet me so now I'd be wearing an avatar of your choice.

Nah, didn't need to, your words are immortilized here, that is good enough. Besides, the only bet I put on this game was a 430/100 money line bet... and it paid nicely.
Priceless quotes like
quote: Pats are the only team in NFL history who could claim "pick any 4-5 of our stars and we will still beat you without them"
hahaha, yeah... well, it looks like you were on some good crack that day... |

The key in the loss was being out coached as I said. Although the Giants played better, with the right strategy, Pats could have won the game. But then again coaching is a part of the game and it was Bellichick who was on crack I think. I still stand by my statement to a great extent in that I could not imagine the 49ers winning games if Rice was effectively out of a game like Moss was for quite a few games (meaning not being a factor)

I agree that the Giants out game planned the Pats, but the pro-bowl offensive line wasn't out coached, it was out played. A lot of the penetration came with just 4 rushers, something that pro-bowl caliber offensive linemen should stop, but couldn't.
The old adage, defense wins championships, rang true again last night... which is kind of sad since Belichick is one of the greatest defensive minds in football. |

Agreed that Giants defensive line dominated the pats' O line as if it were a college team. that is why, if I were the coach, in the second half of the game, I would have gone to a no huddle offense and mixed the running game with a healthy dose of short screen passes.

It does make you wonder how the "genius" appeared mortal with his schemes. He failed to make any offensive adjustments to the Giants defensive line pounding of Brady. Maybe he was preoccupied.
But, if I were in his shoes and the rules were pretty lenient, I probably would have done it also, in the spirit of 'gamesmanship". Likewise, when he's made to look foolish, he should also take it like a man.
What I didn't like was him leaving his team with a second to play. |

I didn't chronicle anything. I didn't predict anything. I suggested the Cowboys would have a tough time in the playoffs which they did. Envious of the patriots success???! Not hardly. When they have been in as many Super Bowls as the Cowboys and have 5 trophies then we can talk. I think envy is probably reversed.
Actually I've always liked the patriots. I just can't stand Billechick. He has put a big black eye on the franchise. Leaving the field with time on the clock showed his true lack of class. And yes there was time on the clock.
I will stand by my comment that this season will go down with an asterisk due to the taping incident. The same may be said of the win over the Rams in the Super Bowl. The patriots are the Barry Bonds of football. I know it is tough to swallow but that's the facts. |
|
|
| keremoner |
I completely disagree. Taping was nat a factor at all as Pats proved it in the next 17 matches they played (as Pats were scrutinized every game after the Jets fiasco). As all players from different teams have commented on it, stealing signs is something that goes on all the time, whether by taping or another method. So no one should try to sound holier than thou since no one is exactly innocent.

It was our prediction along with 90% of the rest of the world who follows football. Predicting for any other team would be "wishfull thinking", optimistic, etc. but the way Pats played this season, it was a reasonable educated prediction. If it wasn't, there would not have been such overwhelming consensus on the expected outcome. Well, we were all wrong because after all this is a game and little things (in this case preparation and coaching) can change around things even though the logical choice may indicate otherwise.

I did watch that clip and all it shows is Brady walking off the field as time expired. Next frame starts up with Manning AFTER the time was put back on the clock. If you watch the full tape, even the Giants coaches were heading for the center of the field to shake hands. Sorry, but I cant blame Belichik for not wanting to stick around to watch the Giants celebrate. He may well be arrogant but I am glad he is the coach of the team for which I have season tickets. |

Funny thing, I heard Jimmy Johnson say that they did some very similar things when he was with the Cowboys. He has been very vocal about saying that.
I also have to wonder what would have happened if, say, the Arizona Cardinals wre the ones who got caught. Think they would be $750,000 lighter and minus a draft pick? I doubt it. |

The season will not have an asterisk and to even suggest it is a comment of complete ignorance. As for the Pats being the Barry Bonds? Another stupid statement. Bonds BROKE the law and his actions had a pronounced effect on the outcome of many games as well as his performance. I have not heard ONE credible source suggest that the Pats gained any SIGNIFICANT advantage from the taping. |

Kere, I have been going to Pats games since I was in High School. I have seen them suck and I have seen them good. I lost absolutely no sleep Sunday night. Whether the pats win or loose, my life is not affected. Either way, i was planning to go to work on Monday. Anyone who takes this stuff so seriously needs to have their head examined. It is nothing more than a movie, entertainment. I go to the games because I enjoy the time at the stadium and it is a great diversion for me. Tell the truth, I can honestly say that I enjoyed some of the 2-14 years as much or more than this past one. Never knew what to expect, saw some all time greats (visiting teams) and had very low expectations. |

You are right, the 2007 Patriots aren't the only team that has been caught cheating. The 2002 Patriots did too...
quote: On Saturday, the Boston Herald reported that an unidentified source said a member of the Patriots' video staff taped the St. Louis Rams' last walk through before they played in the 2002 Super Bowl. The Patriots beat the favored Rams the next day 20-17 for their first NFL title.

Yes, and you can clearly see time left on the clock.
Yes, they all went to the center to shake hands, then they were told that there was still time left on the clock. Everyone went to the sideline, and Bellichick went to the locker room, because he has no class...
Glad or not, feel free to admit when he is an a$$hole, which is all the time. He is a prick, a good football coach, but a total prick. |

I doubt it.
Interesting, I heard Jimmy Johnson say that he was taught how to do this at the beginning of his career, and that he didn't think it was of any use to him.
He also mentioned that he would go through the trash in the coaches suite to see if they threw anything out (which isn't against the rules).
I don't know if the league was harsh on the Pats because they are the Pats, or because they are sending a message. I think it is more likely the latter. |

I have not heard ONE credible source suggest that the Pats gained any SIGNIFICANT advantage from the taping.
I would say they are more like Sammy Sosa...
They got caught once (may be twice since the 2002 Superbowl thing is out now), I think you would be full of it if you think they only did it once...
The season won't have an asterisk, they lost the Superbowl, that is asterisk enough |

Maik, if your team was from Arizona, you'd be crying now too. What burns some inside is that despite all, Pats will be serious contenders for a few years to come.:2:
I am a Jets fan, not a Cards fan, not that they are any better...
I am sure we are all jealous, you are right... listening to you on this board, you would think you had something to do with their success. |

I really don't care if he is an a$$hole or not. Makes no difference to me. I have no dealings with him. I will say, however, that as a Patriots season ticketholder, I am very happy he is the Pat's coach.
You may not like him, but the fact is he is a Hall of Fame coach.
Hey, did you catch the Celtics last night? Another win. NBA's best record at 37-9. Number 17, here we come! Next week pitchers and catchers report to training camp of the World Champion Red Sox. Yup, life as a Boston sports fan is still good! If only those pesky Bruins would get going. |

A little testy are we??? It will always be noted about their videotaping during this season. Complete ignorance. Just ignoring that fact is. |

I would hold off on declaring the Celtics the champs, they are the best team in the east by far, but they do play in the Busch League, I mean Eastern Conference...
Bellichick is a hell of a coach, assuming that he doesn't get dinged for some of the things that your hometowm paper is reporting, he will be a hall of famer some day. If this comes out as being true, he will probably get shamed out of the league. |

As for "declaring the Celtics the champs" I would clearly classify my comment as more cheerleader than declaration.
As for them playing in the East, let's remember that they are currently 10-0 against the West. Can only beat the teams on the schedule.
And...if you are referring to the Boston Herald as my hometown news paper...lets not get carried away. It's not really a definitive source for much outside the entertainment world. |

I have to correct you yet again, they are 14-0 against the west :)
I would look to 2/22 at Phoenix, and then they have a stretch from 3/14 -3/28 were Boston has -
Utah at home
At San Antonio
At Dallas
At New Orleans
Phoenix at home
That will tell a lot. Boston is currently one of only 3 teams in the east that has a winning record against the west, vs 4 teams from the west that have a losing record against the east.
I am a huge Uconn fan, and to see Ray Allen finally on a team with a chance to win, makes me pretty happy. |

Doesn't look so hot for Mitt these days... Mitt Quit, looks like he joined the Patriots, Bruins, and Boston area college team in the loser column... |

Boston College falls from the undefeated, Pat's end up 18-1, Schilling's shoulder ends his career.
I'm kinda liking 2008 already for my brothers up North.
Now, if the Knicks would just lose all their games so they end up with a high 1st rounder. . . |

I like Schilling, I hope this isn't the end for him |

Yeah. It was a rash decision on his part but he was facing an uphill battle and if I were spending my own millions too, I would probably have quit as well.

Mitt was loser before the election even started. I must admit I was a tad surprised he did as well as he did in Mass. The man was not well liked here.
And Labor, I am certainly glad you are basking in the glory of the Gints big upset, but the truth of the matter is that NY has had all loosers for a long time, Jets, Yankees, Knicks, Rangers and the only college football program worth noting is ...Rutgers??
As for Schilling, his loss means little or nothing. It will give him more time to open his big mouth. |

I was shocked that a bible thumping conservative go elected in the socialist state of Mass! |

He was not as much of a bible thumping conservative as you think. He may have been a mormon but never the evangelizing type like the moron from Arkansas.
