| Nothing new that I see...perhaps there are small changes not worth noting like the rear view mirror, etc. - may need to ask the dealer...someone here had mentioned that sometimes manufacturers make changes without letting customers know...why let everyone know your negatives...either way...time to see what price I can get for the 2007 as compared to the 2008 - if the price difference is large I'm going with the 2007 - if it is small then I'm going with the 2008. Starting to shop on Thursday! |

| Hi I'm new here, waited forever for Acura to update their site for 2008 MDX for my wife. The only difference i can see at the updated website is the new Sterling sliver that someone mentioned earlier. Are the exterior accessories price cheaper or are they same? |
|
|
| 07aspenx |
| It looks like all models with the exemption of the base model comes with Sport seats with perforated Premium Milano Leather :( |
|
|
| gmc74 |
Do they still have last years pictures up? If you look at the interior 360, the mirror is the same. I am pretty sure if you look at the 2nd exterior pic (you are looking at the passenger side and a bit of the back) it looks like you can see the new mirror.
It isn't listed as an option, so I assume it is standard, just strange that it looks like last years interior 360 |
|
|
| JCM5 |
also if you look at specification, interior feature it will list auto day/night rearview mirror as standard. Not sure if this was on '07 too the 8 cup holders and leather shift knob.
For sure the MPG has gone down to 15/20 mpg under the new 2008 method down from the '07's 17/22 mpg figure that I was comparing with the Highlander's MPG the night before.. |
|
|
| cvista |
You can compare 2007 Vs 2008 using their vehicle comparison link. This is what I see
New color
Auto dim standard
Price increase of $200
Height has increased by 4 inches
Ground clearance is 8.2 instead of 7.3
9 pounds heavier
Mileage down from 17 to 15
Not worth the $4000 - $5000 price difference when you consider 2.99 financing which will expire on Sep 4th. |
|
|
| 07aspenx |
| I also noticed that the low and high beam are now both HID. The only bummer for me for the model I chose is the interior color. I would have chosen the Taupe over the Parchment since the Parchment interior easily gets dirty. Otherwise I don't see anything on the 08 model worth paying the extra $$$. |

You mean that the Tech package now comes with the perforated leather, right? Last year only the Sport package came with perf leather, |

Height increase of 4 inches??? That is strange. 4 inches is big increase when the ground clearance only changes by less than an inch! Where did the increase of the other 3 inches come from?
Also, mileage down to 15? Thats a bad selling point. |
|
|
| notlmpresed |
4 inches does seem extreme... makes me wonder.
Also, I am not impressed with the new color. I think Acura's weak point is their color lineup, especially for the X. Id love to see a nice blue, or nice green for that matter (not the green they just did away with), and some other hip colors. |

Yeah, but we buyers always forget that once the model year changes, the value of the year old car drops by about 10%. The dealers are well aware of this, and that 10% savings is almost always what you see on "year end close-outs". They are in the business and "know" this. After 3-5 years, of course, the difference in value gets smaller (similar %, but the car's value is less), so over time you do end up ahead. And the longer you keep the car the more you end up saving..... |

On Acura.com, they are still showing the headlights as being HID on the low beams only.
Also, as far as I can tell the ground clearance was 8.151 inches and the total height was 68.201 inches last year, so it hasn't changed, which makes sense. |

I can pretty much confirm this. I have the 2007 MDX brochure and it says:
Ground Clearance: 8.15 inches (207mm)
Height: 67.9 inches (1725mm) |

MPG is the same, they just have to abide to government standards now:
** Based on 2008 EPA mileage estimates, reflecting new EPA fuel economy methods beginning with 2008 models. Use for comparison purposes only. Do not compare to models before 2008. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle. |

I just talked with the saleman from local acura dealer, he told me the 2007 MDX may run out of inventory before 2008 MDX arrives. They just have 11 MDX left, they may be sold out this weekend. |

The perforated leather is still only on the Sport model..........under the specs on the Acura website here is what it says for the
TECH=Premium Milano Leather trimmed interior
SPORT=Perforated Premium Milano Leather trimmed interior

I am starting to shop tomorrow. What should I expect in price reduction? Now that the 2008 is announced should I be getting an even bigger discount below invoice that fellow buyers on this board received just a few weeks back because cars depreciate 10% from 2007 to 2008?
Also, if I am forced to buy a 2008 will I be paying what is on the sticker in the window of the MDX? My thinking is that if the discount is too small for the 2007 I will just wait for the 2008. |

You may pay sticker early on depending on your area of the country. I think by Christmas, the prices will be back to invoice and lower. It may not even take that long!:D |

I don't see the auto off/on headlights listed in the 08 brochure.
The 10 way seats seem to have migrated to an 8 way.
Overhead Map Lights MIA?
Rear Privacy Glass?
The specs are changed around some and combined as single line items, but I can't find these in the 08 brochure |

Go to the acura.com and compare the 08 vs 07 MDX and click the Comfort & Convenience. Then scroll down to the lighting and you'll see that the 08 has Xenon low and high beam (bi-xenon) like the BMW's. |

That's weird because if you go to the Build and Price and click on the "View selected features to compare trim levels", you will see that all except the base model has a Sport seats with perforated Premium Milano Leather. It maybe a typo, but it's listed on their site. |

yes bi-xenon headlight are great i have a bmw, you still have the standard hologen hi beams (for instant flashing) the low beam HID housing will have a internal flap of some sort, that when switch to high beam mode, the the flap will fully open giving you HID high beam. so now you have total of 4 high beam lights aiming at the road ahead very powerful
also notice the service reminder on '08 has more function , such as timing belt, filter, transmission oil..etc. where as the '07 only have the basic oil, brakes ....service reminder. |
|
|
| ductman |
only low beam hid are mentioned not high beams, only significant
change that i can see is rain sensing wipers |

It looks like a big difference between the 07/08 comparisons and the actual specs. Maybe Acura was a bit premature on updating the web site?? |

One possible change in the 08 that I've noticed is the return of the "Rain-sensing" wipers, but then again, it's pretty misleading ~ the subject heading says, "Speed-sensing Wipers" but the description says, "The rain-sensing, intermittent windshield wipers were designed with your safety in mind. If there's a mist or rain, they will automatically activate so you can keep your hands on the wheel."
Which is which! |

It's like they are confusing the first and second gens. I would love to see the rain sensing wipers return but their site is a bit misleading at best. Hopefully they will get everything straightened out soon. |

You may run into a problem with supply and demand. They are not making anymore 07s so if you are set on a color/package, I would just get it. Your probably only talking a few hundred dollars at the most between now and the time the 08s hit the floors. You may need to be more concerned with which dealerships need to meet their numbers this month and would probably give you a better deal. Good luck. |

Since they have stopped production on the 07 then I agree and we should make the buy.
It would be painful to see Acura offer some special close out deal after the special financing offer is over....
Thanks for the information! |

My dealer has offered a price of 43K for an 07 Tech/Ent that will be delivered to him next week. This price is before taxes.
It is attractive since the vehicle has not been drove around and had others sticky fingers on it (LOL), but I think his price is too high. I hear others talking of below invoice pricing. I told him that if this is his best price then I will wait for the 08's.
Any comments? |

I am in the same boat - others in this forum are getting below invoice and the dealer won't budge for me - so I am calling other dealers - if I cannot get a lower price I will get the 08 because I feel there are "secret changes/fixes" the manufacturer "could have" made in the 08 (why would the manufacturer want to make fixes that are potentialy embarassing public is my thinking...small stuff like the clicking noise people are describing, etc). I will gladly pay invoice price or a little more for the 08s...I don't think I will have to pay full sticker? I am willing to wait a few months - perhaps December to buy...you would think the dealer will lower the price below sticker for the 08s because there will still be other dealers trying to get my business...
I really want my MDX now...but will wait it out for the best deal...sigh... |

Check to see if that $43k includes any accessories and destination. You should get below invoice if you minus the accessories and destination. Invoice right now for Tech/Ent is $41,425. If it is above that, you can do better. Everyone should be able to get below invoice right now. |

It may include destination, but definitely does not include any accessories. He wanted another $500.00 for their package of side moldings and all weather mats (no wheel locks). I asked for the bare bones price.
As you can see above, another member just paid this in NJ. I am trying to sift through the fact from the fiction in what people are paying at this time. |

I'm in an area where there are only 2 dealers unless I want to travel over 100 miles to the next dealership. Still, I was able to get below invoice by $300. Start getting internet quotes all over the place. Keep working them down and if they say "I'm sorry, I really cannot go below invoice" you just reply back with "I will wait then. Thank you for working with me."
They will knock on your door once the cars are still on the lot. Is there a particular color combo you are trying to get? |

Thanks for the great feedback. I am partial to the Nimbus Grey and Taupe color scheme. This is what they have coming in which is a plus. I don't NEED the car now, but I WANT the car now.
It would make the most sense for me to wait until next spring and try and work a deal on the 08, but if they were going for invoice or below, I would jump on an 07 in a heartbeat. I even let my dealer qualify me for financing (which he did) thinking that would help my chances of him lowering the price. I made him very aware I will wait for an 08 (Poet?) if I need to. I mentioned that I have been getting feedback from the Internet about people getting invoice and below pricing.
The waiting game continues... |

I'm exactly in the same boat HuMan321 - to help predict where prices of the 08 will be at the beginning of the 08 sales cycle I searched the archives of this forum and found pay dirt! Our fellow forum members were talking about prices paid back then just like we are all doing now - in the first month or so nothing went down but in December 06 the prices came down approx $2,500 - $3,000 below MSRP. I need to do more research but that is my first look.
I'm leaning towards waiting for 08 unless I get a real good deal on 07 - no rush... |

| As an FYI, I just spoke to the salesperson who sold me my 2007 MDX (awesome guy) about the 2008 MDX. He said so many people are waiting for the 2008 MDX's. In his own words he said this was "stupid". The reasons he gave were that there are no incentives, and aside from the mirror, it is exactly the same. If people are looking for changes, he said there might be 4 or 5 in 2009. Aside from that, he thinks its crazy not to buy the 2007 over the 2008. |

Just remember to factor in that 07 was a model change year which usually translates into an even tighter market with higher prices. With 2008 being the 2nd year of a model, I am thinking prices will fall sooner. At least I am talking myself into that theory :) |
|
|
| crimson |
| I did not think of that. That could definitely be true. Everyone has been right though, as there are no significant changes aside from dropping one color and adding another and the rearview mirror becoming standard. |

HuMan321 - Yes, I think you are right - prices will fall quicker...and I agree...that's what I like to tell myself anyway...
crimson - your salesperson could be telling you the truth...but I have to wonder...I don't think people are waiting around to buy 2008 like the few of us here...not with the price of gas and the way the credit market is drying up...at least this is what I like to tell myself anyway :-) |

For poeple who are financing.
2.99 APR won't come again. The lowest you can get for a 3 year with perfect credit history is 5.5. It makes a difference of around $2000.
I have been looking for a long time and 08 prices won't get near invoice until spring 2008. 07 with 2.9 APR and 500 below invoice is the best bet. |

| I couldn't agree more with the previous post. That is to take advantage of the 2.9% finance and pay below invoice. From my purchase experience three weeks ago, you should be able to get your 07 between $500-1K below invoice and about 30% off any extra accessories you might want. My accountant put the numbers in front of me: If you are able to park your money in a CD or internet bank where you can earn 5.5% or more in interest, now your savings jump from $2K to about $5K. Then consider how much more you might pay for an 08 model + higher interest, you might be looking at $7 or 8K in savings. Just few things to consider. Good luck. |

Well, just returned from the dealer here in Arizona and no MDX for me.
I did the Internet quote thing and tried to talk each dealer down to invoice. The best price I got was $42,946 before t/t/l. Tech/Ent
He explained to me that they have to pay more in advertising fees so there invoice is higher... bla bla
I explained that others are getting invoice or a little below according to these forms and he said that people will post up a better deal than they really got...bla bla
They did not have the color in stock we wanted but we really liked the floor model. They had a bunch of accessories $7,000 worth according to the sticker. I thought what the heck see if we could get a nice discount on the accessories...ha-ha he came back with about $500 off....ha-ha
I explained that you guys mark up the accessory big time and he could do much better than that but he did not budge....
I did do a lot of e-mails prior to comming down...
We told him, that we would wait for the 08's to come down in price so we would be looking around Decemeber time frame....
Disipoting but I really think they could have done better... |

They gave you a bunch of bs and you did not take it. Good for you. I don't think we need to lie about the prices we paid for our Xs. Pay more in advertising? Huh? What, do they put MDX pictures on bus stops or something? Bunch of crap. lol
It is more rare to see a person who buys over invoice than it is someone who bought at or under invoice. |

Yup, I can not believe all of the dealer's here would not go down. Maybe the X is selling well in this area....
The funny thing is I went to the dealer website and it showed they have over 60 in stock but most did not have the ent package. You would think they would be wanting to get them off the lot.
We can wait. |

| Was planning to wait for an 08' but was quoted an 07' for $1400 under invoice by one dealer . . . that made me start thinking about the 07' and 2.9%. However, they didn't have the model/color I want. I contacted another dealer that does have it - they want $500 over. I told them if they decide to move it at $1000 under before the 2.9% ends to give me a call. That gives them about a week. I don't have high hopes. |

LOL. That is exactly what I did. I put $1,000 down, financed the rest at 2.9% and left the $45k in my 5.2% Fidelity account. Easy money.
But when you factor in the tax that you have to pay for that 5.2% interest (say 30% of the income), you practically gain nothing ( nay be the flexibility of having the money in hand and can use it for other thing if you need it) |

I'm bumed out they didn't add keyless start to this top end SUV. That's becoming a standard in Lux brands real fast. What is Acura going to do, what until the 2012 FMC to add it?
Kids are all in High School now and I was thinking of replacing my 04 Toyota Sienna with an 08 MDX, but, I'm going to let it ride another year. The Sienna has Adaptive Cruise (another lux feature the MDX doesn't offer) so I might as well stay where I am. :( |

How do you know that? Incentives are not known until they are announced. If the economy slows who knows what the pricing and incentives will be. My personal feeling is that prices for 08s will not hold for long if at all. This model is not new anymore. New Highlander is out, incentives are huge on the 08 XC90, new Pilot out next year and the maybe a 7 seat RX. I don't think $500 over invoice is out of reach later this fall.
However we won't know for sure until then. :D |

| Ok, I'm going to get a few quotes for an 08 Sport Ent. Any guesses as to what they will come back as? What do think is a good target? |

My guess is you are lucky to get $500 off Mfg list, via internet and/or Costco auto program. Much depends on the location of dealer and competition. |

Not really. Do the math. After taxes I will still make over $2000 over the life of the MDX loan. |

You are going to pay $47040 during the life of the loan, but your $45k will turn into $52K, assuming you don't touch it.
But if you are going to pull out roughly $1300 per month for the payment, the amount of interest will steadily decline and in the end it will be a marginal benefit... but a benefit none the less |

I don't need to pull any of the money out... that and I have more than $45k in that account. :) |

Want to find out which one is better?
Use this http://finance.yahoo.com/calculator/loans/autos/det-03
For $45K:
- With 2.9% interest, you will pay $2,040 in interest for 36 months
- With 5.5% interest, you will pay $3,917 in interest for 36 months
- If you leave your $45K alone in your CD for 36 months with 5.2% interest, it will turn ~$52K, but don't forget your income tax bracket. |

Yeah, but the interest that you make on the other money doesn't figure into the calculation... and sure, you aren't taking money out, but that means you aren't putting in that much more.
I am sure you can see what I am saying. At the end of the day, your disposable income is X, if you buy the car outright you can put Y (amount equal to car payment) into the account each month, if you don't, then your disposable income is Z (X-Y). Whether you start with more money in the account and don't increase it as much (because your disposable income is now Z, not X) or you start with less money in the account (because you bought the car outright) and add Y to the account each month, at the end of 3 years, you will be marginally ahead by financing it, which is a good thing. |

I did this same thing with my first car, albeit it was only $22k. In the end, by leaving my money in the money market and after taxes, I still netted around $1,000 on a 3% loan. In any case, a talk with an accountant, which my brother is, comes in handy. I'll be netting around $2,400 on this purchase. It is true though to watch your taxes, many forget that.
Spend the money on the good life? Well of course! That's why I bought the MDX! To be honest, after selling our house in California and moving to Washington, my wife and I can finally live a better life. I loved California (Los Angeles) but don't have an ounce of regret since the move. California is a fun and beautiful state, however, I just can't get enough of the Northwest. I guess I do miss my alumni seats at the USC games, but I'll be in Seattle to see my Trojans smack the Huskies in September. FIGHT ON!!!

OK, first quote:
2008 MDX Sport Ent in Sterling Gray (new color) with Taupe interior. Invoice is not widely known yet so based on 2007 invoice of 43,996 and adding 200 for price increase (I know it should be a few bucks less) gets us to $44,196. Destination is going up by 45 to 715 (shown in build price on web site)
So 2008 invoice on Sport Ent should be around $44,241 give or take. I have a quote for $200 over invoice plus a $299 doc fee, so really $500 over invoice plus TTL.
I was tempted to just take it and save some time. What do you think? |

That was fast. I figured it would take at least 2 months. With this rate, I see (hope for) a big incentive in the future :). |
