i realize that everyone wants the perfect vehicle , but let's face
reality , it is not possible, i now find myself listening to every
sound on my 07 mdx just to see if i have an " issue " also. i am
listening for popping sounds, creaking sounds, warm armrests. i
said to myself , i am not enjoying this vehicle since every time i
go for a drive , i am " looking for a problem" take a look at other
forums such as bmw and just be glad you do not have the hesitation
transmission issue of 2007 x3 and x5, or take a look at the rx350
forums and look at those issues, as long as my x drives great. doesn't leave me stranded, and gets decent gas mileage, why *****
about every sound, as long as it is 98% perfect i am cranking up my
tunes and the hell with listening for every stinkin sound and driving myself nuts, just my 2 cents!!!! |

| The only sounds I listen to on my X are the XM and DVD-A. Occasionally I hear the V1 chirp and have to pay attention. :D |

| It's teh biggest drawback of an online forum like this. Prior to the internet, you bought a car and enjoyed hte heck out of it. If it creaked, yeah- so? |

Now see to me, nothing beats a charcoal broiled burger with some swiss or provalone, with just a little lettuce on a dusted Kaiser roll, and a cold can of Miller High Life to wash it down  . Maybe some fresh cut fries, too :D
Actually I rediscovered Miller beer a few weeks back, and it's the perfect offset for a hot summer day in the garden :)
So, 'splain to a Northern redneck what one of those UNI things tastes like. Looks kinda like one of those things that my boys throw at the wall and it crawls down slowly, freaks the wife right out.
Not saying that it's not tasty though :) |

A noble sentiment, but unfortunately more often than not the raison d'etre of forums such as this one is to bltch and moan about every little niggle that isn't up to the lofty expectations of the unfortunate victims of corporate greed who have purchased the object of the forum's existence. As a member of several technology and watch forums, I've seen the same thing time and time again.
However... As much as I would love each and every one of these forums to be a 7/24/365 lovefest, there is a very real value in the consensus these occasionally negative places can build. Case in point, without this forum, I would never have known about the HFL issue where the stereo comes on after a phone call, regardless of whether or not the stereo was on in the first place. Same with the sticking fuel-filler door and the air recirculation whistle. Now it's true that we're still waiting for a TSB for the whistle (though mine has since magically disappeared -- odd, but true), but it's good to know these things anyway, even if it means that I have to wade through ten "I hate the finish on the back of the brake pedal" posts to find them.
Anyway, I love my X, (minimal) warts and all, and there isn't another SUV on the market that I'd trade it for (save for a loaded M-B GL550 and year's worth of free gas...).

You know, when I was paying 15,000 for a new car made by humans, I could live with a few problems and less gadgets.
But at near 50,000 and made by robots, not to mention new technology I expect more.
I told my wife yesterday "Just look at this control panel," (Our '91 300ZX t/t) " Look how simple it is compared to anything you drive now days. It gets us there (Quick), and we are not missing anything, as long as we know where we are going.
We seldom go over 20 miles in a trip so don't need nav to get us there. And we can wait to make a phone call till we get there.
If your life is more complicated than that may be you should take a second look.

While I tend to agree that simple is better in most situations, what exactly are you saying here? That you expect a $50K car to be simple like your aging ZX? Or that you expect even more gadgets than the X supplies for your money? BMW tried to simplify the feature bloat inherent in today's high-end autos with iDrive and failed miserably, IMO. The X's dash certainly suffers from buttonitis (well the ones with the Tech. and Ent. packages do, Base models are a picture of simplicity), but after a while it all becomes second nature. It's a Faustian bargain at best, but until mind control is standard equipment, it'll do.

I never thought of that. Less gadgets, lower prices- more sales. It might just work! I think you might have stumbled onto something.
I wonder if Wal Mart ever thought of that? |
