Found a simple fix for weeping mirrors - Click HERE for Original Thread

Today while washing the MDX, I found a simple way to get rid of the weeping mirrors...

1. After washingand rinsing, tilt both of your mirrors in the down position as far as they go. This allows you really get your drying cloth into the little recess and the base of the mirror housing and soak up the excess.

2. Furthermore - Collapse your mirrors in about half way. On my version - The Canadian Version - you'll see there actually is a little draining hole that is not apparent when the mirror is fully extended.

3. Then dry your doors . Your mirrors can retrurn to the preset positions when you hit your memory preset buttons.

Worked like a charm for me!!!!

Not to be a "drip", but let us know how it looks tomorrow. Also, have you driven the car yet?

I sealed the top mounting/trim piece w/screen spline (accessory of champions) AND blew out the mirrors with compressed air. That was Friday. Still dripping/whipping today. I know DMor's fix that she said she'd be posting later, which she mentioned in another thread, is significantly more aggressive, but not as aggressive as Rail's take-it-apart one.

I have driven the car several times today since washing and not a single drop of water on the doors. Also took an air nozzle and blew in and around the mirror and again no wetness.

Collapse your mirrors and you will see, there really is a lot of drainage from the drill hole. Look for it right at the joint between the body colour portion and the black base of your mirrors.

This really works guys!

Did your mirrors weep before you did this the previous time you washed it?

Did both on mine but still whip on driver side and surprisingly no drip or whip on passenger side.
TheWorm
Mine's still whipping on the driver's side and dripping on the pax side since the Friday wash. Today's Wednesday. Unreal.

Hey, I got an idea...

Maybe we should not wash the 'DX anymore, just give it a SPONGE BATH :D :D :D No more whippings or weepings.

hey guys, has anyone tried dry vaccuming the mirrors after washing? i haven't tried it yet, but i hope it minimizes if not totally eliminate the weep.

Just in case you haven't seen it, DMor's latest mirror fix was posted a few days ago over at

http://www.acuramdx.org/forums/show...p?threadid=2960

Also, you should know that DMor is now using a beta test group before she posts her fixes on the site. Talk about quality control! :)
TheWorm
I heard that DMor's beta test group had to sign a non-disclosure and also can't trade in Home Depot stock due to insider trading rules :).

Oh...Ha ha :D I keep missing these new THREADS.

Naimdxer...Interesting that you've found that the water collects near that door gasket behind the mirror, as well. As mentioned I taped all of this and after a few DUMPINGS of water on that side...my gasket doesn't receive enough water to weep anymore. It's pretty simple. Eliminate the amount of water that can reach that sponge/gasket in the first place, and you've eliminated/reduced the weep. There are probably several ways to accomplish this.

Worm...you used screen spline around the trim? Not Rope caulk?

Oh...and Uh...so much for my Beta Testers. :) *taps foot* The only "completed" test is on my driver's door...which is fine so far.

We should organize this madness by compiling these FIX-IT's in one thread though.
TheWorm
Yea, I admit I was only a partial beta tester...screen spline w/silicone instead of the rope caulk. Ineffective, as I mentioned. Will give it a shot (the right way), after my current project is completed.

Last Saturday I ran our MDX through the car wash with a freezer ziplock bag over each of the side mirror assemblies! I used a rubber band to help hold each bag in place and to help keep water out. Nobody there said anything about the bags! As far as I can tell, I didn't get many funny looks... They left the bags in place when they delivered the MDX back to me. To my surprise, the freezer bags worked very well!

I still had a couple drops spray out during the initial acceleration, but nothing like that usual V-pattern that covers both the front and rear doors! When I wiped those drops off a couple minutes later, there was no more spray and no more drops. During the next couple days, there was no sign of any calcified water droplet streaking down the edge of the front door! :D

It was only a quite period of 7 days. After that we were allowed to resume trading HomeDepot stock again! It is an Atlanta based business you know! :)

Is there an age requirement for my MDX before I can order them?

There may be an age requiremnet to buy them but not to use them, so you will have to get the MDX's older brother (TL) to buy them.
