I saw that earlier today, not too bright. To make matters even worse, she was on the Today Show this morning and was asked the same question.....her answer was no better than this video.

Sad, really sad — especially when you consider that she was an honor student in high school. For your reading pleasure, here's her response:

"I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because, uhmmm, some people out there in our nation don't have maps and uh, I believe that our, I, education like such as, uh, South Africa, and uh, the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should, uhhh, our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., uh, should help South Africa, it should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future, for us."

It's so bad to be true, so hard to believe, that I almost wonder if she was getting her cues from somewhere, or she was being prompted (from a hidden earphone or something) and the cueing/prompting got seriously messed up!

You and I did not watch the same Today Show. Her performance of the Today Show was very good. She rattled off a question on the lunar eclipse with no hesitation. I accepted her explanation of the horrible response she made during the beauty pagent. I have talked about her today show performance with several people and we are all in agreement that she showed up very well.

Let's just say she doesn't have a future in the legal profession.

Here's the response she gave on the Today show (http://youtube.com/watch?v=fQKNvPn3V-8):

"Personally, my friends and I, we know exactly where the United States is on our map. I don't know anyone else who doesn't. And if the statistics are correct, I believe there should be more emphasis on geography in our education so people will learn how to read maps better."

Much improved, IMHO. :2:

Oh, I don't know about that- her answer is definitive compared to some of the legal opinions I get from white shoe law firms.

yeah...beginning with teaching how many countires are there in the world, besides "U-S-A".
(and 4th of July is not an International holiday! you'd be shockingly surprised how many people believe 4th july is the independence day of the "world")

I think this is a case of an 18 year old who got really nervous and stumbled on national television...

Her today show appearance was much better. No matter what people tell you, these are beauty contests, not much more... she finished fourth, I think that is all the proof that is needed.

Glad to see she can laugh it off

Beauty on the outside.
Hollow in the cranium!

I beg you she doesn't know where IRAQ is on the map if she got one at home.

apparently nothing has progressed since 1994..so I am giving up hope!
someone forward me this email today, couldn't help but post this here. I should send it to Leno or Letterman...this could make a good segment on their show like Letterman has "Famous words of Presidents"..(or something like that). :D
