| My X is less than a week old and my wife wants to take it on 800 miles round trip to Jackson, MS during long weekend. I am not worried about accumulating miles on the X. But, is it recommended to have long drives during the initial break-in period? |

| Just don't drive it like you stole it for the first few hundred miles! |

| I agree with porshah. Drive it like it's a nice family sedan, stay around 70-80 and cruise. You will be glad you drove it when you get there. Ride on long trips is awesome. |

| My sales rep mentioned not to use cruise control for the first 600 miles. |

AVOID steady speeds for long periods of time, avoid WOT, avoid using cruise control. Apply all these to prior 600 miles....READ THE MANUAL TOO!
wELCOME AND ENJOY YOUR TRIP! |

I'm with JL_SS ... 800 miles is too long not to use the cruise control. Most mfr's tell you to avoid long periods at the same speed, but you can use the cruise and still vary your speed occasionally.
Cars don't require the break-in periods they used to, and since Acura suggests only 600 miles anyway, just enjoy your trip and don't worry.

Cars are machined much better today than they were 30 years ago when the break in period was 3000 miles.
The posts above are great, I think the biggest things to avoid are the fast starts (mashing the gas off the line) and the extreme high speeds (trying to find the limiter). These are things that have the best chance of scoring the cylinders before the rings set properlly.
As for whether or not to take the X on the trip, HELL YEAH! It is a great ride for a trip like that, you will be glad you did! |
