After enduring a pretty loud rattle for the last couple of weeks, I discovered it was just a pair of sunglasses in the overhead sunglass holder. Doh!
Thing is, both my wife and I pinpointed it in the dash/center stack area, but like lots of rattles, it wasn't coming from where it seemed like it was.
The point here is that the sunglass holder has no liner on one whole side, nor on either end, so sunglasses placed in there are going to rattle and bang around like crazy. I've already lined the center console compartment with that rubbery non-skid stuff to keep things in there from rattling, but I now need to line the sunglass holder as well.
The morale of the story is if you have a rattle, check your sunglass holder first.

I take it you don't wear your sun glasses while driving during the day or you only drive at night time?

LOL. Actually, I don't wear them very often, but I have two pair of sunglasses in there. The one I wear the most I keep in the door pocket (in its own case), and I put the second pair in the holder. (Old habit because neither my former TL nor my RL have holders.)
So I had basically forgotten the second pair was up there in the holder.

Actually I can relate to this. Two months back, my 70 yr old dad called me ask me to sniff out a strange noise coming from either center console or glove box. This noise only occured when he went over a bump or RT turns. So I sat in his Lexus & took a drive. The noise was exactly as he described.... 10 seconds later, I asked him, "Do you have your glasses in the holder?". He replied, "Not that I know of". So we continued driving around around the block. Again the sound came up & I pulled over. After a few seconds trying to figure out the source of this, I decided to open the holder....
..... Well of course, there was a pair of his reading glasses in there.... |

I can see it now.
Lionspeed opens the holder, sees the glasses, and looks over at his father in a "why didn't you tell me they were there" look
His father says "thats were those are, I have been looking for those..."

| HA, i had the same problem. Couldn't figure out where the rattle was coming from for the life of me. Usually, i store my shades in there with their protective cloth cover and it never rattles. The one time I put them in there without, it rattled like crazy. |
