Has anyone here ever installed roof rails by yourself? Is it hard to do? I am looking for a project for this long weekend? I need your help. Thanks.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

It's fairly easy. The most difficult part for me was removing the roof molding. It was difficult because I did not want to bend the plastic/aluminum molding. For me that was the most nerve wracking and sweaty part of the job. Once you remove the molding and cut it to the correct length pieces, it's smooth sailing from there.

The instructions calls for removing the ENTIRE molding. You don't need to do that. Just measure from the rear hatch to the furthest point (1673mm) and cut. Now that you have the large piece that was cut out, just cut it into the correct size (5 sections) according to the instructions.

.... or just have the dealer installs for you for $100-150 for labor. Just sit back & enjoy. Let them deal with the drilling & the heat. Beside, if it leaks in the rain, it'll be covered by the warranty. If you do it yourself .... well warranty? what warranty?

Actually no drilling is required. The studs are already in place. After you remove the moldings, and put back the trimmed pieces, you just put the roof rails over the studs and bolt down. If I had to drill I will definitely take it the dealer and let them do it.

Wow. I did not know that no drilling is involved here. So if one day I decided to take off the rails, there would be no holes to fill?

No holes, but because you have cut the moldings, you will have to replace them.

Rocketman,
Thanks for your instruction. I'll do it by myself. Hopefully, it won't take the whole weekend long to do it.

In addition to what JeffK mentioned, you would have to replace the ENTIRE molding (from the tailgate hatch to the bottom of the windshield).
