Holdback not profit? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm trying to find a MDX Sport/Entertainment for around invoice. The best internet quote I've gotten from my dealer is $46,495 (w/ no accessories). I cited what I believe is the proper holdback number of $1,434 & offered him right about invoice - $43,996.

This was the response:

1) the invoice you have is wrong, the real invoice is 44295 + it cost me 350 to do a pre delivery inspection and 65 dollars to fill the tank with gas.

2) holdback is not profit! I [sic] pays for our floor plan.

3) I only have two left.

I would be willing to help you out with a few 100 dollars off my offer to you. Let me know either way if that will work.

I'm thinking it's probably best to wait for the 2008s...?

Well, According to Edmunds the invoice for the 07 sport/ent is $43326 plus $690 destination which totals $43996. Now if your area (Don't know where you are as your post did not say), had regional advertising or marketing the price difference may be the $299.00.

All that being said and having just taken delivery last night of a 07' tech/ent, I would say invoice on a sport is about all you are going to get. I was able to get invoice minus $400.00. I'm satisfied with that.

The only difference between an 07' and 08' is the compass/auto dimming mirror being standard, where it's an accessory on the 07'.

The fuel thing is crap! According to the window sticker, a full tank is included in the price. And the holdback is just that, the holdback.

If his dealership uses it to pay for his flooring, good for them. It is technically profit, yet most dealerships already have it spent and the sales team never sees it.

So, good luck!

I am not sure where you are located (I am assuming in the US, not Canada), but I would try another dealer.

He is full of crap, the invoice is $43996 and that includes destination, he is probably actually paying around 42K (at most) for the car (dealers don't pay invoice, well they would if they bought one, but they buy in bulk)

The hold back is profit, and with the 08 around the corner, you should be able to get invoice or below.

If you don't go to another dealer, which I would, at least send him an email letting him know that XYZ dealer (another local dealer) is right around invoice ($43996) and if he wants a chance at your business, he needs to be there too... if he doesn't, then not a problem, you will shop elsewhere.
