Just picked up my Silver/Ebony Sport/Entertainment today, and even though I've only had it for seven hours, I can already say with confidence that I made the right choice. It's solid, handles like a car half its size, accelerates better than it has a right to, and has all the toys I could ask for, and more. It also looks killer, IMO -- this is one SUV that isn't going to get lost in the crowd at the local Wal-mart parking lot.
Anyway, I just wanted to introuduce myself and say hello to all of you. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to years of faithful service, but before I get ahead of myself, let me get back to surfing the fora to learn more about the vehicle I plan on driving for the next 10 years (that's how long I tend to keep my cars, so I'm praying the MDX is up to the task).
Regards,
Adam |

Even though most of you get see one of these beauties every day, I figure one more pic can't hurt. Anyway, here's a shot of my new baby:
(yes, I've got a lot of weeding to do...)
I finally got some decent wheel time today (drove from Manhattan to my house in CT and back), and I've gotta hand it to Acura, they really hit this one out of the park. The power is good, the ride is compliant without being "mushy", the interior fit and finish is beyond reproach, the seats are supportive and comfortable, and the navigation system is inuitive and spot-on. I haven't been able to put the stereo or DVD player through their respective paces yet since my 8 month-old son has been sleeping like, well, a baby, each time he's been in it (a testament to the smooth ride, I suppose), but I did manage to connect my Treo via Bluetooth, which is pretty cool. Very cool, actually (bear in mind here that I'm coming from a 10 year old Benz and a 9 year old Honda, so all of this technology is making me feel like a kid in a candy store). I still don't fully trust the back-up camera, but I'm sure it'll become more natural to use as I become more familar with the MDX.
Any gripes? One: the interior door handles feel cheap and plasticky when compared to both my E420 and my wife's Accord, and the Trip Computer in the MID seems to be a bit more complicated to use on-the-go than it needs to be. That's it.
Yup, so far I'm loving this car far more than I thought I would, or could. I've been an avowed SUV-hater for my entire driving-life, but necessity is harsh mistress. I might've been able to hold out another CT winter or two, but now that the baby is here, the peace of mind and extra space afforded by the MDX are godsends. The fact that it hustles through the twisties, powers out of the corners, and looks like a true 21st century automobile should is the icing on the cake.

Adam |

Welcome to the club Adam... Now you can race down the Merit Parkway in style :)
I spent too many years in your neck of the woods, too cold for me. Welcome. |

Yup, the good, old Merritt Parkway is my road of choice to and from Weston. While I suppose you could take 95, why would you when you've got this terrific, scenic and twisty road to play on? True, it's not fun when the white stuff is coming down, but I try to make a point of not driving when it's snowing hard -- SUV or not. Of course it sounds like you've made it point to keep the snow far and away -- can't get much sunnier and hotter than AZ!. On that note, I must say that the A/C in the MDX is nothing short of amazing. On its lowest fan speed it can cool down the entire cabin in practically no time at all, even if it's been sitting in the sun for an hour. Doubtless that comes in handy where you are.
Anyway, thanks for the welcome, I'm sure I'll be "seeing" you around.

You can race Dave Letterman on 95, only on the Merit... I used to love that road, except for the speed traps :)
yeah, the A/C is fantastic, cools the car from what ever ungodly temperature it reaches out here, down to habitable in no time. |

A belated welcome Adam from a fellow Sport/entertainment owner. The MDX may not come with a free watch like some special edition Range Rovers but it still is an awesome vehicle. :2:

Welcome and congrats! Don't forget the break-in period of 600 miles.
No full throttle or sudden fast accelerations. :(
Don't worry, 600 miles go by fast. |

Not me. That 600 miles was the longest period for me & the most irritating. My heavy foot was itched crazy. They should have made the engine break-in ready...

Yup, we blew past the 600 mile mark in record time, and now I'm letting the 3.7 liter SOHC VTEC sing. And at 4500rpm, sing it does!

No worries, Malyel, I figured you get around to saying "hola" sooner or later... ;) And yes, the X is still awesome, despite not coming with a shiny, new Kobold (make mine a Large Soarway Diver, please).
