I have a few questions... I just got a 2001 mdx. I had the same symptoms as many people (that could have been the egr valve.)... it it wasn't that. I bugged the dealer until they took action. Between the extended warranty, and contacting honda... they replaced my trans, 2 trans brackets, engine brackets, both front struts, and rear spring base, for free.... Here is the question; does anyone know if honda changed anything on their factory rebult transmissions so this one doesn't die on me as well. (by the way, i only have 45,000 miles on my 2001.) (also, the previous ower, my mother, drives as if she were 80 years old.).... andif they did make changes on the tranny, how good are they; are they not likely to burn up? Should i sell the car considering the year and all the bs that is known to happen to them?

Rebuilt transmissions apparently have an oiljet built in but have been known to fail just as much as the original. My advise is to sell it once it's been repaired and make sure you get a wriiten warranty for the tranny so the new owner will at least have that.

Is there anything aftermarket to install that might increase the life? My car's blue book value is only 16,900. That's crap.

You can install a transmission cooler but even then it's a crap shoot since there is no pattern with the tranny failures.

I just talked to tim ad hondaacuraworld and he mentioned that may of the rebuilt trannys that come back to the dealer are because the owner beats on the car. Did anyone have a situation where they have a factory rebuilt tranny and it went to hell again? ... Bascially what risks am I realisticaly rnning here?

Also is it worth getting a towing kit (power steering cooler, trans cooler, etc...) for this car given the obvious tranny issues? It is same to tow then?

I have a rebuilt tranny with about 80K on it. So far so good. But this is about when the original kicked. I'm pretty easy on the car, although I do drive a lot of miles.
