I need to solicit all of your collective wisdom. A dealer is offering me a '01 SS Touring no nav with wood, rear deflector, flares, side steps, flaps, locks for $41,225. Should I take it? The price is MSRP and then the forced options...are these options worth it?
Another wrench in the whole thing is that I want to trade-in my 93 4runner, so I'll see what they offer me (I wish there was a Carmax in Northern California!!).
Thanks in advance for your advice!

What do you mean "with wood".. Wood steering wheel?
Otherwise, if these are the accessories you wanted - why not take it? It's MSRP. |

I think that's a hefty premium, no?
Go to www.hondacuraworld.com and check the prices of those accessories. Off the top of my head, I think the core (uninstalled) accessories are worth about $1500 (closer to $2k if by "wood" you mean the steering wheel). Maybe $350-$400 for installation at prevailing rates.
That means you're getting whacked for at least another $2k for nothing. Where is that additional $2k? If the car is MSRP then they're adding $2k to the accessories. Do you have a breakdown of the car's MSRP and the cost of the accessories you can post? |

Don't do it! Just spread your net further and have some patience. You CAN find a dealer who will sell at MSRP.
And always arm yourself with facts about a trade-in (blue book wholesale & retail) before negotiating with a dealer. By the way, have you considered selling the 4Runner privately?
Time is on your side...save your money! |

| I had a dealer do the same thing to me. Its a large dealer group in Indiana. I told them not only would I not buy that MDX, but would never buy a car from the entire group. i expanded my search and found what I wanted only 3 hours away. Will be getting my MDX without dealer options in September. |

Sorry for the ambiguity...with wood means wood steering, panel and shifter.
Worm--I haven't gone to the dealer yet, so I don't have the exact breakdown.
Indyguy and Kap--well, time may not be on my side. My 4runner has a burned valve  and I have probably another 5K miles on it before repair is absolutely necessary. BTW--no more Toyotas for me--'93 4runner has 106K miles on it and needs the top half replaced?
Thanks all,

| If you can, please don't do it. Too much of a premium on accessories. Either wait, or, if you're not too stuck on the MDX, look at competitors. |

Look to southern california, where the dealers are more plentiful and competitive.
Look at the dealer ratings on the board. I got mine from Cerritos. They'll try to force mud-flaps and wheel locks, but will back down if you say it's a deal-breaker.
But work the phones! Invest the time! The model year is ending and your car is out there... |

| Save your cash - for that price it should come with the Nav! |

| A few weeks ago, Main Acura called me about available MDXs. Also, both Sunnyvale Acura and Los Gatos Acura sell for $1995 over MSRP. It's usually easy to get cars from them. |
