I saw this thread from another forum...is this guy for real? The price seems too low...
All you have to do is go to the following website and find the INVOICE price of the model you like to buy
http://www.costcoauto.com/
then you start 95% of invoice price to negotiate with the dealer(prefer the big one). Your target price should around 97% of invoice price.
I am $200 off the deal on 08 MDX Sport Entertainment, the dealer said $42,478.42 + TTL + Tax.
My understanding is the dealer will get at least $2K from Acura. I only ask for $1306 off the invoice, and they keep $694, nothing wrong with that, right?
Base Invoice $43,586.00
First Bid: $41,406.70
Final Bid: $42,278.42<<<<<< I do appreciate any suggestion on wether I should add more $$ for 08 MDX SE

You mean they are not going to charge you the $715 destination charge?

Thanks for the experience. Can you please tell me how much did you pay for that base '08 MDX? Was it just the base or did you still have any options in it. Can you also please share with me a few steps about your approach: how did you come up with the price you thought was desirable, etc.?
what about fees: what fees and how much did you pay at the signing?
all feedback is greatly appreciated!

Just my $.02:
For a dealer to sell at invoice, his profit is limited to holdback, usually 2% or 3% of MSRP.
Holdback is paid by the manufacturer at the end of the calendar year (December).
In certain cases, a dealer is willing to share part of his holdback: When I got my '06 MDX in November, 2006, the new '07 were already on the floor.
My price was $450 less than invoice, the dealer was willing to share part of his holdback with me. My '06 MDX was one of the last ones on the lot. In addition there was $2,500 marketing support from Acura on the '06 MDX.
I would be very, very suspect of anyone claiming to have bought an '08 MDX below dealer invoice. I hasten to add, I would be equally suspect of anyone claiming to have bought an '08 MDX at invoice. It is possible, but I doubt it is happening very often.
There are occurrences when you can buy and/or lease an '08 at invoice - Chevy Trailblazer, Jeeps, Ford Explorers, Dodge Durango - I hope you see a pattern here - mid size SUV's built on truck frames that are basically 4 to 5 years old and where the manufacturer is replacing them with car based mid size SUV's.

I just took delivery of a 2008 MDX w/Tech at $1000 above invoice after some serious haggling. He said they've never sold a car this early in the model year at this price *ever*.
So.. I doubt anybody can get a 08 MDX at invoice or below invoice this time of the year. (unless you have an inside connection) |

I don't think the person posting that is old enough to have a driver's license.
Take it for what it's worth. He's saying he can buy a new 2008 Sport Ent at less than invoice minus holdback and not pay any destination.
A 2007 would be a very good deal at that price let alone a 2008. |

| Honda uses dealer bonuses instead of rebates, so those can come into play. They probably don't have any on the new MDX, though. They had a lot of dealer cash on the 2006. |

I think that guy is full of S***. I was following that thread myself.
I paid $500 above invoice for my 08 Sport/Ent plus tax and tags only. They wanted to charge me $299 for processing fee, I just told them politely my offer was $500 above invoice plus tax and tags only, I didn't say anything about processing fee. Then she came back and said that means it's only $200 above invoice because they charge the $299 processing fee to everyone. I then politely told her then that's fine, to me, the $299 is pure profit anyway, play with the numbers anyway you need to my offer is for $500 over invoice. She came back after talking to her sales manager for 2 minutes and shook my hand and said, we have a deal!
I also traded in my 03 and got $450 above KBB good value. I felt that was a lot better than what carmax could offer me so I am really happy with the deal and the dealership I dealt with. They were very professional and everything went quickly and smoothly. |

I generally find discussions where someone says that they paid a certain amount above or below invoice not all that helpful. Invoice seems to be a number that is defined by different people in different ways. It should not be that way, but fact is that some dealers will add to the "true" invoice an amount for advertising or other things.
I think it would be a lot more helpful in these forums to quote actual prices rather than dollars above or below invoice.

| dude, i wouldn't waste time haggling over couple bills on a 40k plus vehicle, just like i wouldn't haggle and didn't, over couple thousand bucks on a 1 million plus house. but then again that's just me |

| if the sales lady is friendly, informative, blonde and good looking then i'd be willing to pay couple bills more just for the good service. then again, that's just me. |

46873.88 included with all the accessories b4 tax. the accessories is about 3000 at cost. when i dealed with them they told me 1000 over the invoice but i asked them to throw in the hitch (600+). Later on they told me they can't attach the hitch with rear lower garnish, so they deducted 600 from the total price so i think it's around 400 over the invoice. |
