Picked up my 2008 Sport Ent in Sterling Gray with Taupe interiore last night. Six miles on the odometer with a 09/07 manufacture date, fresh off the truck. Only drove it about 20 miles, but I got rid of a 02 MDX touring that has served us well.
First impressions, compared to the old X, three words: quiet, comfortable and ride quality.
Seats are way more comfortable, on the road, it's much quieter and it rides more like a car. Technology is a bit overwhelming at first, but when you get used to it, it's amazing what this vehicle will do and the conveniences.
As far as the color, bought it sight unseen, but it looks quite good. A dark silver or light gray without the green tone of Nimbus. Happy with our choice all around.
A few complaints: Steering wheel is terrible and way too thin and flimsy. This is something that is much better in the old X. As soon as they sort out the wood (plood) option for 08, the whell is going. Fits and finish could be a bit better. I have the gap and alignment issue with the wood trim between the passenger door and dash. Not that big a deal though.
Even my wife said it's a much better vehicle than the old one. A bigger difference than she would hav thought.
Sport running boards and shift knob to be installed this weekend and wood wheel (ASAP) and maybe front and rear garnishes. |

| How much off MSRP did you get? What other colors did you look at? |

| I'm thinking of doing the same and trading our '02 MDX with 94K miles. |

Congrats!
Does your new 08 X come with auto dim mirror? Anything else added to the 08 that are not in the 07?
Enjoy the new X. |

No pics yet. Won't have a chance until at least the weekend.
The 08 comes with the auto dim mirror. I think that's it. At least you get something for the $245 price increase ($200 on the car and $45 on the destination) that is of the same value.
I didn't trade the 02 X. Kept the deals separate. I went to Carmax and got a fair quote. Offered the car to the dealer at the same value and they passed. Sold it to Carmax right after I picked up the car.
Second choice color was Aspen white and third was Nimbus. We ruled out ebony interior as being too hot and a bit monochromatic with the dark wood in the dash. Parchment was too light (hard to keep clean), we really wanted another saddle interior. That left taupe and the sterling gray was new for this year and a color we both liked, so that did it. I still think the vehicle looks best in black, but since we had a Nighthawk, I did not want the maintenance again. We waited a couple weeks to get the color combo and model. Price was very fair. Only dealt seriously with one dealer. About $200 over invoice including all weather mats and wheel locks plus a $300 doc fee plus TTL. I did not feel like grinding it out or going to multiple dealers for an extra hundred or two. |

epiney,
What part of the country are you located? Sounds like an excellent deal!:29: |

Welcome to the club, epiney! I got mine last month, and am currently in Montreal, putting it though its paces on its first of many road trips (drove up I-87 from Manhattan, stopped overnight in Lake George, and voila, here we are). This is my first SUV, and so far I can say that I'm duly impressed with how well it drives and handles -- from long, smooth interstates to narrow cobblestone streets, the X tackles every type of road with equal aplomb. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm actually looking forward to the drive home tomorrow. In the rain. Seriously.
Regards,
Adam
PS - The navi works like a champ in Montreal. |

... Recommend for exterior:
1. front & rear garnishes
2. body side moulding
3. roof rails & cross bars

Agreed on # 1 & # 2...ended up getting # 2 and a bunch of other stuff (like the back-up sensor) as part of my DYI project.
For # 3, I'd say get it unless you really have a need to mount stuff on the roof. On my old minivan I used is only a couple of times to get a ladder and a mattress.
Anyway, enjoy the X! :D |

Well, I’ve only put a couple hundred miles on the new X, but it reaffirms our decision to buy it. Came really close to buying a V8 Volvo XC 90, for a change, but the new X was absolutely the right choice.
Some random comments:
I prefer the sport mode all the time even though it’s a bit firmer. In comfort mode, it rides more like a traditional CUV.
Luckily, I don’t seem to have the pulling to the right issue, only have 200 miles on it though
Accelerator tip in seems more aggressive with the new model than the 1st gen. Perception of speed is less as well. Since this thing is quieter and smoother, going 75 feels like 60 in the 1st gen.
The audio system is pretty good, not spectacular. A vast improvement on the 02 MDX, which was an embarrassment and just crap. XM and FM are OK, DVD-A is pretty good, but IMO, the 5.1 system in the Infiniti M is better.
Navi system is very good, some routing is off, but split screen and turn directions are excellent. POIs need some work though.
Drove it about 80 miles return to Taste of Lexus event this past weekend. I drove the RX400h a little hard on the course and found the body lean, squat and dive pretty excessive. It was quiet and quite nice inside, but I much prefer the MDX.
The only thing that bothers me is the steering wheel. As soon as I get a straight answer on the wood look wheel option for 2008, it’s being changed.
Installed the sport running boards and wood shift knob. Body side moldings are next. I like it better without the roof rack, never used the last one.
Overall, two thumbs up. :D |
