Hello everyone,
As in my earlier post I am looking into purchasing an 07 sometime this week or next week. My fiance seems to believe I do not need the sport model just the tech :(
I was curious how does the sport model in comfort mode compare to the base model in terms of ride quality ?
I test drove the sport last night and it left a smile on my face as I left the dealer.
Hope to be a proud new X owner soon. |

Find a way to convince your wife to get the sport. I went through the exact same negotiation with my wife, and we are both happy we went for the sport!

| I agree with alnajarian... Even I had to convince my wife to get the sport. The fact she liked the premium perforated seats helped me a bit!! I love driving with the sport mode on. |

| Just keep the Sport X in comfort mode whenever she rides and nobody will be the wiser.;) |

LOL I would do that except for the fact that she knows what comes with the sport package (think the shiny rims will give it away and the big button next to the gear shifter)
I also heard that many dealers arent ordering many sports model for 2008 because most people rather invest the money in the tech / ent package, such a shame. |

| Yes, that was the problem I had... here in Northern California the dealers (all of them) have very few 2008 Sport models on order. I needed to wait until December (at best) for the color combination we wanted. I couldn't wait.... ;) so We decided to go just the Ent. package. The handling is incredible without the Sport package. |

well, I lost that fight with my wife, I did get the tech package and found a set of sport rims and it rides just fine.
This is not a sports car so I'm not sure how much the "sport" suspension will really help. At least for me, I traded in a sport handling car to get a truck so the extra $2500 for the suspension didn't really matter to me.
the Tech is a must though!! |

I like buttons, so I got it... now I am happy I did... I won't rehash what is already on 10 other threads here, but I didn't really notice the difference until I drove the car a bit harder, and that is when the sport mode differences shines.
Any way you go, sport or tech, you can't go wrong. |

| Invest in Sport Model. You get the best of both world. Once you put in some mileage into it, the differences will be night and day. |

Basically like what ^^ he said.
You like Miller Light, I like Bud Light. Different taste but at the end, it is still beer.
Having said that, I did test drove 2 different sport in both mode & found this:
1. Even in sport model in comfort mode, the non-sport is a little smoother & softer ride.
2. Comfort mode: Handling is about the same for both sport & non-sport.
3. Some like/love the perforated seat, I hated the perforated regardless what model/made...
4. In sport mode, sharp turns & tight corner, sport is the clear winner.
5. For extreme motion sickness guy like I am, the non-sport came out a winner for me.
Get what you like, come up with an excuse later, life's too short. Like Heat00 said, if non-sport is your choice, Tech is a must!! Good luck. They're all great regardless. |

The non-Sport suspension still benefits from the SH-AWD and Nurburgring track-tuning, hence it'll still run circles around most other SUVs on the market. As GMC pointed out, the true benefits of the Sport active damper suspension kick in when you're hittin' the twisties, and then it's nothing short of a revelation -- no dive, no squat, no lean. In spite of what some might have you believe, with the suspension set to "Sport", this SUV will run with more than a few so-called sport sedans and coupes, and I've got plenty of shocked looks of disbelief from the drivers of said cars to prove it.
Even so, while I'm a firm believer in the Sport package, if you can't sell your better half on it, you're still going to be damn happy that you bought an X.
Regards,

Wow, I'm amazed on how many people here has to consult their wives when purchasing a car. :D
Anyway, I haven't driven the non-sport MDX so I can't make a comparison. But I do have the sport and it handles like a sport sedan and it still rides smooth. I didn't think you can have both.
"SUVs added height and weight creates a higher center of gravity, making them top-heavy and less stable than cars."
"One half of all highway deaths involve only one vehicle. Many of these crashes are rollovers in SUVs."
— Russ Rader, spokesman, IIHS
The sport package has thicker front and rear swaybars, higher spring rates, and an active damper system. This significantly improves resistance to rollovers and helps in emergency maneuvering situations. I think your lives are worth more than $2200.
Hmmm, I think I can be a salesmen. |

Thank you everyone for their feedback it has been most helpful.
I plan to head to the deal tomorrow or Saturday. Problem is there is only 1 tech left and 3 sports. Maybe Ill get lucky and the tech will be gone and I will have no choice but to get the sport.
Aside from this I agree the tech is an absolute must. The 20 minutes I spent toying with the navi had me pretty much sold before we even left the lot to test drive. Its one reason I am choosing the X over the FX. The interior is beautiful and I feel you get the best of both worlds with this vehicle; luxury and sport (only Lexus is more luxurious i suppose and handling probably Infiniti) |

| Handling is still Porsche's domain, as well as brakes. Luxury is arguable - the MB GL IMHO will give the Lexus RX a run for the money in terms of luxury appointments. |

Well... in my case, I did not have to consult the husband... it's my money and I can buy what I want... :2:
I purchased the tech pkg because I reserve the right of "sports model" for our Corvette. |

I agree that it's your money and that you can buy whatever you want. It goes both ways. Enjoy your X. :D |

It darn well should. It has to heavily optioned out to have features most want. You can almost buy two RX's for one GL |

Never drove the non sport version. I suspect it is perfectly fine and we would have been happy with it. In the short time I have had it, I can really tell the difference in sport and comfort modes. Much less body lean in sport mode, but you do fell the ripples more.
It is a lot of money and I do think Tech is the best value (I think it's teh best seller too)
This thing drives better than any CUV we looked at, so either way I would have been happy. |

My last SUV was a Porsche Cayenne S. So I couldn't settle for anything less than an MDX Sport.
Even though my Cayenne S handles better than my MDX Sport, I still prefer the MDX overall. |

And that's why they're sitting on the lot at my local MB dealer. My brother wangled a good deal for one with P1 package with NAV for $53K. |
