ok, I understand how to prevent them going forward, avoid car washes and the dealer lol....

but I have all of these spider web swirls/sratches that are very visible in the sun and look terrible.

I remember someone mentioning a product, Zaino or something.

please let me know what this is and if it will actually remove all of these sratches/swirls from the black paint.

is it a paste, liquid, what? is it easy to apply? is it a compound?

Thanks!!

You'd think after 145 posts and all that you'd have learned to use the search button by now...:)

Searching on this site will yield lots of info.

Here is the official site.

Zaino is a non-wax polymer - easy to use but needs plenty of coats to bring out the showroom shine.

Heat,

Try a cleaning wax first. If that doesn't work, try a very fine polishing compound. With a new X, that should be all you need. As it ages you may want to invest in an orbital polisher.

I have an orbital polisher. I don't find that it actually removes swirls. I have run into this problem with other cars. If it really bothers you I would suggest talking with a professional detailer or auto body shop. Really what you need to do is "melt" the clear coat a bit using various polishes and equipment. You can really make it worse if you don't have the right equipment and experience. I did this to one of my cars once (only once).

I have made myself a resolution not to use car washes with the MDX. I will see how long this lasts when it is caked with an inch of salt and I can't turn on my water without putting a layer of ice on my driveway. Should be a little more manageable in Florida.

What kind of orbital do you have? A Porter Cable?

As with anything, you can get really carried away.

detailcity.org and roadfly.org also have good detailing forums. I hang out mostly on detailcity.org, since there are fewer newbies there asking the same basic questions over and over.

Depending on the severity of the swirls, an orbital polisher can remove them, if used with the proper pad and polish, but a rotary polisher is much faster and preferred by most experienced detailers. However, in the hands of an inexperienced user, you can ruin your finish as the rotary will generate heat on the paint surface as it works, while an orbital polisher will not.

It's impossible to say without looking at your paint which products you would need to use. Typically, I would start with Menzerna Intensive Polish on an orange Lake Country pad first, and then finish with Menzerna Final Polish II on a white Lake Country pad. Or just use Menzerna 106FF (also sold as Blackfire Scratch Resistant Clear Polish), as it has nearly the cutting power of IP, but finishes with more gloss than FP II. It's a little pricey though. I don't recommend Zaino Z-PC as I view it as a compromise product. You really need two separate polishes to remove swirls, and then bring up the gloss.

After polishing top with your favorite paint sealant or wax (Zaino, Poorboys, Pinnacle, Blackfire, whatever).

I've used Klasse All-In-One with Sonus Acrylic Glanz for years on my black TL. Very easy to apply (wipe on, wipe off) and quick to use (no curing time) and completely takes care of fine scratches and spider webs.

it really depends on the amount of swirls you have. Since the X is new, you can get by with some Scratch X from autozone. Its by meguires and is in a tube. It works pretty well, just remember to use a clean microfiber towel.
