My 01 MDX just started having tans issues last week at 108K. First came the random downshifting and 30 miles later all kinds of shifting issues. The local dealer just wants to replace it to the tune of almost 5K. Did Acura do anything to extend the warranty. I see that some of the CL models hav 7yrs or 109K warranties. How about the MDX. I really regret buying this piece of junk.

Nope, the warranty was not extended. Have you tried working out some form of cost sharing with the dealer? How did you like your piece of junk for the 1st 100K miles?

I bought it with about 60 K on it to replace my 01 VW Jetta VR6 which was a mechanical disaster from 24K miles.

The MDX wasn't too bad until about 80K since: New EGR, Rear A/C transister, and new front struts when the suspension recall was done. I bought the MDX because of the great hi-mileage tradition of Honda products, and hey I live by their plant in Ohio so everyone around here drives them.

I'm not as upset with the car as I am with the dealer. I am pretty mechanical myself and have rebuilt american car transmissions. All the acura dealer could say was that it coded as an internal malfunction and needed to be replaced.

I guess from what I read I'm lucky to have made it this many miles. Maybe next time I should go back to buying GM.

Know of any good sources for replacement transmissions?

Acura makes the final decision about reimbursement not the dealer. I would call Acura Client Services and push for full reimbursement for a replacement. It has worked for others and it can't hurt. In this thread (Link) a few members found that their documentation stated that the transmission was replaced under a 93 month/109K mile warranty although Acura claims that there is no extension for the MDX. Another poster with 135K miles on their 2003 had the tranny replaced by Acura for less than $1K.

At least you made it to 108K without serious problems. My 2004 Chevy Silverado with 25K miles gets a new intermediate steering shaft every 10K. The driveshaft rear yoke made it to 15K before it needed replacement and the front transaxle just lunched it's gears and bearings. There were also about 8 or 9 smaller issues like replacement of the rear leaf spring supports. That's pretty bad considering the toughest job this truck sees is hauling 3 yards of bark mulch twice a year. It was all covered under warranty, but the warranty is now up and I'm on my own when it all fails again by 50K.................

I called Acura Client Services for my 2001 MDX with 135k to see if they would cost share. I needed receipts to show I maintained the transmission; they offered to pay the part, if I pay the labor. The $3300 bill went down to about $1200.

Thanks to you all!

I'll contact acura and see what happens. Will post the results.

I did find a reman trans with a 3yr unlimited mi warranty for under 2K. Just need to find someone other than the dealer qualified to install it if acura won't pony up for the parts.
