| Are the speakers the same for both radios? I was wondering that if I switch...( I have the base and I am having the memory of the tone settings issue) to the ELS radio--hopefully the dealer will upgrade for me. Would the speakers need to be replaced & or upgraded? |

| That is a good question. My guess is the speakers are the same in each model..... |

Well maybe seven of the speakers are the same, but what about the extra three that come with the ELS system? (The base system features 7 speakers, while the ELS system pumps the sound through 10).

... So by comon sense, people in the car with 7 speakers would lose their hearing slower than in the car with 10?

At least the three front speakers in teh ELS have "ELS" stickers on them.
I do not think it is realistic to expect the dealer to swapp an ELS in a base, because the base has a warranty failure. There are differences throughout the vehilce in the ELS and base stereos- head end, amps, woofer, and speakers. |

I have been looking at what might be done to get a little more out of the base stereo.
I had a set of Boston Acoustics 6.5 inch pros that I pulled out of my old vehicle - went to have them installed and my installer tried one door and said they were not compatible.
See this thread for more on some of the related details - it would be great if we could get an update from shootist...

I checked the parts pf a base MDX against a tech-MDX (which has ELS) Note that the part numbers for the door speakers and tweeters are the same...just the sub is different so it looks like there is no point in swapping anything.
Look under ANTENNA-SPEAKER parts at this site's online catalog for the Base MDX and then the Tech-MDX...

I am thinking the best line may be Infinity Kappas as they are available in high-efficency, low-impedance models. They are still not showing anything on their fitment guide, so I suspect it may take some time for this to be sorted out.
Anyways, that is all I have been able to figure out so far - I really would like to tame the top-end on the base system....otherwise I find it sounds quite decent. |
