Yakima Cargo Box blocking GPS Antenna? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I'm thinking about getting a roof top cargo box from either Thule or Yakima. However, I noticed the box will cover the GPS/XM Satellite antenna once installed.

How will this affect the the GPS and/or XM Radio signal?

Anybody have one of these cargo box and if you can tell me your GPS/XM radio still working okay?

The GPS antenna is in the middle of the dash, behind the display. The cargo box probably won't affect it at all.
The bump in the roof is the XM/ Acuracare antenna. You may notice degraded XM reception with a loaded cargo box. How bad it will be is anyone's guess, but nobody has reported problems.
Did you know that the XM satellites are so low on the southern horizon that an obstruction directly over the antenna may not block signal, but an obstruction to the south will?

Thanks for the reply. I thought the bump was the GPS antenna. Now I feel better about getting the cargo box.

Definitely no known related issued with reception on XM and/or GPS with the Yakima SkyBox Pro. Numerous trips to Lake Tahoe for Ski/Snowboard weekends.

Hope that helps alleviate concerns :2:

I'm not a big fan of the way the boxes look on the '07+
vs the 1st gen MDX's.......looks like a rocket launcher aiming up towards the sky......

Thanks for the link, manitou. I had been looking for info on sealants and polymeric sand for my stone patio and who would have thought that this info can be found on the MDX forum.

LOL

I know that feeling! I get to claim 4 "rooms" in my house as mine, all the others are my wifes.

I get my office, bathroom, bar and single car garage (which is my shop), the rest is all hers...
