Out of the blue today the 'Tighten Fuel Cap' warning came on. Checked the cap and it was tight. Took it off and tightened again. The warning remained on. And the cap had not been touched since my last fill up several days ago. Any ideas or TSB's? Anyone else as lucky as me?

Drive it for a few more miles and it should turn off. If not, trip to dealer.

Yes, I have the same problem. The cap is always tight, but for some reason that comes on. I take it off and put it back on, and after a few new starts it goes away.

it has something to do with the car's gas evaporation system and this was a probelm on the early 2004 and 5 tl's. FIx, unscrew the cap, tighten till 3 clicks and restart car. After a few starts, it should disappear, if not, go to dealer.

This happened to me about two weeks ago. I retightened the cap. Drove it home and then later to the mall that day. By the end of the day the warning message went away. I also checked the owners manual and it said to check the cap and it should go away in a couple days, if not, take it to dealer.

And remember that "tighten" means "tighten to three clicks".

Rather weird - happened to me today as well. It's odd - and most likely a coincidence - but over the past two or so days, its felt like the X (a 2008 with just over 5000 miles now) has been a little sluggish off the line. It seems Ive really gotta put my foot in it to get it to move.

Tonight, the damn 'tighten gas cap' comes on, so I get out, click it a few times to make sure that its tight (had gotten gas last night), and get back in. Message still up. Turn car off, decide to wait a few minutes and start er up. Same message.

At this point, if I waste anymore time, I am going to be late for a job interview, so I take off. Here's where it gets a little weird - damn trip computer was all over the place - as much as Id love it to be real - it was reading 35.2 MPG on the highway @ 75mph !?!?! Then it dropped into the mid 20's, spiked again and then went down to a relatively normal 21-ish mpg.

WTF ?

Something is not right - got gas last night ($72!!) and I am down already a 1/4 tank - my Ive perhaps done 50 miles max, which would put me at 200 miles for a full tank ...

Got out of my interview three hours later and the damn gas cap warning light is still on. FWIW, I am due for my first oil change soon as the oil life reads 20%.

Anyone have any thoughts besides a trip to the dealership ??

Thanks,

Probably a few more cycles should do it. If it doesnt feel any different in a week, definitely get it checked out.

sterling...are you sure no one is stealing your gas?

I think due to the change of climate you all had the gas cap light.

Open, let it breathe a few seconds, tighten and ensure it clicks 3 times...should go away.

This just happened to me today... Drove around this morning - no problems. Parked my mdx in my driveway.. then after about an hour started it and the gas cap error came on.

Hope this isn't something that keeps popping up.

About the same here: message came on, I opened/closed and tightened again. Message went away the next day.

Most likely the sensor is not 100% accurate as I always make sure to tighten the fuel cap.
