What's your idle speed? - Click HERE for Original Thread

I was wondering what the warm idle speed of the MDX should be when in gear?

Mine usually idles at about 750rpm or so (point of tach needle between the hash marks on the tach) and I have to say it's a bit rough especially when compared to my 9 year old Accord with the J30 engine. I notice after about a hour of driving the idle drops to about 700rpm (point of needle exactly on the hash mark) and it's MUCH smoother.

I'm loathed to take it to the dealer since I'm sure it's "normal" and "they all do that". Somebody tell me I'm wrong!

I don't know what the deal is with the MDX, but my 10 year old Benz intentionally idles fast at startup to help reduce emissions (I'm not quite sure how this works, but that's what the literature says...). As for my personal observations after about a month of ownership, I can say that my X does idle a bit faster/rougher when cold, but it settles down to nice sewing machine-like hum once it reaches operating temperature.

I have no clue what pictures of booze bottles and fractions have to do with idle speed, but my "X idles exactly where yours does - right at 750 rpm.

But my idle is generally very smooth. How many miles do you have on yours? Have you tried another brand of gas? Sometimes one brand of gas will just work better in a given car than another brand.

One last suggestion might be to use a gas additive a time or two and see if it cleans up your idle. Sometimes it's just a little bit of trash in an injector or a buildup of gunk in there, and a good additive will help.
