My wife and I currently own a 2006 MDX Touring, with the cargo liner option. In the back you can often find two mountain bikes, an inflatible white water kayak, camping gear, and more (no kids). On the roof rack, we sometimes carry two flatwater kayaks.

After doing some research for our next vehicle, we are now seriously considering the Toyota Sienna AWD. It's the same 7-seater, similar engine size (MDX is 3.5-liter).

Positive considerations for Sienna: We have more bikes (road and touring) and stuff, so more interior space is always nice. The power sliding doors are great. $5k-7k lower than MDX for almost similar options.

The downside: less horsepower, minivan instead of SUV, less refined handling & awd system, non-luxury brand, 3-yr warranty (4-yr for Acura), the options are costly.

We wonder if anybody has compared these 2 models. If you're here, you most likely chose the MDX. Hope you can share your experience.

A fully-equipped Sienna actually costs the same as a moderately equipped MDX. This really makes it hard for us to decide.

Any inputs will help. Thanks!

You are comparing Apples and Oranges here. Both have their own utilities. Oranges are rich in Vitamin C. An Apple a Day keep a Doctor away.

If you have 2 or more kids, a minivan would be better and ofcourse, if you always are on tours and need extra room, then also a mini van is good.

You didnt say here who would be driving the vehicle more...the Dad or the Mom, if its you, then I guess it becomes an image problem also. Most Men dont like driving soccer moms vehicles.

But, agian, the choice is all upto you. What your demands are and ,how you plan to you your vehicle.

You didn't really elaborate on why you were considering the Sienna. Is there just the need for space? If that's the main reason, then yes the minivan utilizes interior space better than most SUVs. I have both an 07 MDX and 07 Odyssey and although the MDX feels more luxurious, is more powerful and more aesthetically appealing (yes, even the aggressive grill works for me), the Ody has more configurations and just smarter use of space.

I thought the newest Sienna has more HP - 266 versus the 253 on the 2006 HP?

And did you check out the 2008 Highlander? It has a six-seat configuration and folding third row just like a minivan without sliding doors. The hybrid version looks interesting.
