no I'm not a professional and no the X isn't going into a show, but not a bad job for an amatuer by hand in the garage, lol
I'll take better shots tomorrow in the sun and when I'm not shaking to help appreciate the formal black in all her beauty!!!
very pleased with the Megiuars, easy to use and it really brought out the deep black and the mirror like shine :) |

So heat, did you have the swirls on your black color and are they gone now? I just picked up some NXT car wash and also some of their water magnet towels and wash rags. I wanted to wait on the waxing til I head more from you. If you had swirls and got them all out, just tell me your process and I'll be on my way to the store to get more meguiars.
I bet tomorrow in the sun you'll really know how great it looks! Nice job!

thanks.
I'm not sure if the swirls are gone.
I almost made a big mistake, I first did the hood with the Scratch X.. thinking it was stronger and would better remove the swirls... and it may have, but it took me 1/2 hr to get it off the hood...
so i switched to the bottle of Megiuars cleaner, step 1.
and it was a lot better, then followed with the NXT figuring it is more of a filler type wax which hopefully will help with the swirls..
as opossed to the Liquid glass I usually use.
To answer you, it was already getting dark and the X was in the garage so I don't know...
will post tomorrow in the sun... I don't think it eliminated the swirls completely but I think it helped a lot..
i'll take some pics tomorrow too, in the sun to really show and we'll see.
if there is sun.lol.
bottom line is, I did the best I could without going "professional"

Nice mirror like shine.
For the swirls, have you tried waxing with an orbital buffer? |
|
|
| Heat00 |
yes, about 70-80% of the Swirls/scratches are gone !!!
I recommend this process, it worked out well.... see for your self!! |

Awesome job Heat! You're giving me hope!
So you used one coat of the cleaner wax, another of the NXT wax, correct? |
|
|
| Heat00 |
here is what I used...
first a coat of the cleaner, says to do one sec. at a time,
then a coat of the NXT, can do the whole car, let dry and remove.
used a small terry microfiber pad to apply and a microfiber terry cloth to remove.
both were easy to apply and remove and available at local auto parts stores!
good luck |

Looking good Heat :)
I just washed mine for the first time. Dealer must have used some quick detailer and a really greasy tire dressing. It was a mess. I was not going to clay bar the car as it was made in Sept, but the friction when drying was bad. Used a clay bar to remove a surprising amount of crud and then topped it with a coat of Four Star Ultimate Paint Protection. |
|
|
| Heat00 |
yea, dealer really messed up mine and added lots o swirls...
I made the mistake of asking for a detail as the car already had a few so they took it to the shop and the next day I was like, OMG... what the hec happened..
that's the danger of a buffer and no knowledge... |

Heat00,

The wheels have clear coat paint on them. You might want to throw a coat of wax on them to add a layer of protection. Makes cleaning off tar residue and other road debris much easier.
Nice wax job by the way. Pick up Step 2 of the Meguiar's Deep Crystal and keep that on hand. It's basically a hand glaze and really makes the paint look deep prior to waxing. Some guys use just that prior to car shows to put on a really smooth shine. I only use Step one for bigger swirls or blemishes and Step 2 for all the other minor imperfections or just to get the depth. |

thx... will keep that in mind although I'm not going through this process again for a while, maybe 6 months lol.
it was quite a bit of work :) |

People still do this by hand?
Do yourself a favor and get a PC 7424. Trust me, you will wonder why you waited this long. |

Try the Lazy Bums' bottle (Z-CS), you might like it better (in less than 20mins). |

SouthSideduc:
I have the PC 7424 and it not paper light and such. I alternate between elbow and PC porter buffer. I may have to try that lazy man's stuff as I'm getting to worn for all this waxing as I get older....

wow, I just read all of this and I sure could have used this bad boy last weekend !!
so you're saying that with this machine ALL swirls etc will be removed?
http://www.autopia-carcare.com/pc-7424.html
Maybe it's worth the investment.... I do still have some swirls that I noticed today in the sun....
and what is the final verdict on what product to use with a buffer like this one?? |

Hard to say without seeing your car, but if the swirls were put there by a true rotary and they are deep it's possible that you will need a true rotary to get rid of them. However, with the right pad and cleaner the PC can do a very, very good job. Pinnacle makes a very good swirl remover. It *may* glaze your black car a bit, but that will be taken care of by following up with a less aggressiv polish.
"Final Verdict"? LOL
My preference for products is Menzerna, so I use Menzerna Intensive Polish, followed by Final Polish II, follwed by FMJ. Depending on the car and the condition of the paint I'll sometimes skip the IP. The PC with the proper pads makes this treatment a cinch. |

OMFG, this Z-CS (some may call it LAZY BUMS's BOTTLE) is freakin awesome. Much much more than I anticipated. Worth every penny baby. Anyway, here's a quick run down:
1. (After washing the X throroughly), starting spraying the CS (20mins/0.75oz) used.
2. 4 hours later, CS starts to work.
3. 24 hours later, freakin Glass SHINED baby
4. 48 hours later, FREAKIN MIRROR like shined.
I love the thing!
:)
P.S. have yet to try applying Z-6 or Z-8 on top of CS. :29: |

Heat,
I don't know who you are referring your question to....
Listen, every company makes a product to rid or ease spider webs......
Avoid Rotors unless you are a "professional"
Orbital buffers (PC 7424) are for folks like us that do this as a hobby etc.....I told Sal I used his product with the PC 7424, sent him pictures of the results.....He was impressed...
IT's ALL IN THE ELBOW my friend, the ELBOW and that expensive Egyptian cotton towel....... |
|
|
| Heat00 |
lol. I guess I was just wondering if a buffer like this can be used by someone like me, I'm no professional detailer, with some kind of ease and the right products to remove the swirls.
I did get a lot of them out and it is much better than before, but I think the process I did, really more "hid" the swirls, rather than remove them.
well, maybe I'll order the PC 7424 and give it a shot. can't really hurt right? and maybe it'll remove some of the spider webs. I don't know where they came from or how "deep" they are. the truck is only 2 months old, built in 8/07 so I imagine this buffer and some good products and they can be removed. |
