Hi guys,

I was curious how you guys broke in the engine of your X's during the first 600 miles?

I read the manual and only states to not accelerate hard and rapidly but nothing about a speed limit, however my sales guy told me to keep it under 60. Its embarrassing being passed on the highway with a new X lol.

What are your thoughts and what have you been told by your dealer/sales rep?

Stick to the manual and vary your speed.

Thanks dj, should I keep it under 60 or can I go above it to maybe 65 - 70 ?

The vary your speed is the most important part.

Vehicles of today do not require the more detailed breakin periods of many years ago. I see nothing wrong with 70 mph or so as long as you do not keep it there.

Ditto on what my fellow members suggested.

I agree, the rings still need to set properly, but today's precision tooled engines aren't like the ones from yesterday where they really had large variances after being built.

Don't worry about the speed itself, just don't use cruise control and vary the speed, and you should be fine.

For the first 600 miles, just wear a wig, some dark sunglasses when you are on the freeway. :2:

Don't forget to go easy on the brakes too. The pads & rotors need to be broken in as well.
