Price Negotiating - Click HERE for Original Thread

I am a new member to ACURAMDX. I'm a real fan of the MDX based on test rides and doing some research. I haven't bought one yet, but I intend to in the next couple of weeks. What I need help with is the pricing. I have looked at dealer web sites (chicago suburbs)and on line used car sites and the advertised prices of 2003-04 MDX's are amazingly consistent. A certified Touring 2003 with 46k miles and no NAV is usually advertised for $22,995 (+/- a few dollars). Similarily, a certified Touring 2004 with the same miles and no NAV is usually advertised for $24,995.

These prices are below Edmunds TMV pricing, so I wonder if the dealers are willing to negotiate much at all. Does anyone have any knowledge or recent experience negotiating with dealers for 2003-04 MDX's? I would really like to find out how much is reasonable for a dealer to come down from the advertised price. $1k or $2k??

I'm obviously trying to find out the answer to my question the easy way by avoiding negotiating with a few dealers. I admit I am not the best negotiator. (However, I have never heard anyone admit that he got a bad deal. I think it's a macho thing.) So any guidence here would be appreciated.

Happy traveling.....

You can always negotiate. Always concentrate on the sales price first. Tax and fees will be standard. And financing will be based on your credit. Take a thorough look around the vehicle and nit pick on every little detail. If you arent happy with the price, you can walk. If you show genuine interest, they definitely want to work something out. But yea, you have plenty of dealers to work with. Theres alot of perks from buying one from an Acura Dealer. I am also from the same area as you.

You're right midnightmdx, there is room to negotiate. But in most cases it is probably hundreds not thousands of dollars. I think if you can knock off $1k you did very well.

I had got a great deal and complained about all the little things that were broke. So I got all the leathers on the seats replaced, which had tears(it was already on order). Broken antenna, which needed the base, and rear roof rail which was deeply scratched.

All in all, the dealers want a sale. They want your business. Maybe with a new car its hard to negotiate because it should be perfect from the factory. With a used car, you never know what you might be getting. If negotiating is an issue, you should try a Carmax store. No pressure to buy. Or have a friend/family negotiate for you.

Acura gives you a free loaner with service. I had a TL with Navi/Xm to drive while my car was getting fixed. They want repeat business and customer loyalty. Every dealership and salesman is different though.
