Got this from SlickDeals

---------------------------------------------------

quote:

I called in to cancel my XM Radio service today cause I didn't wanna pay the 12.95 per month deal anymore (I am aware there were cheaper alternatives)... and turns out, I got a deal I couldn't resist, haha. Yes and this deal BEATS the 12 months for $77 deal!

If you want a step-by-step of what I did, here it is:

1. Called the number 1-800-XM-RADIO (1-800-967-2346), waited until after the spanish message, and said "REPRESENTATIVE" to direct me right to a rep.
2. I said I wanted to cancel, the rep said okay and requested billing info for security issues. I acknowledged. (Make sure you have your Radio ID - go to XM channel 0 to see what it is if you don't have it).
3. She asked me why I wanted to cancel, and I said "I like XM Radio and all, but I don't listen to XM Radio enough for the amount I pay" (you can say the same or change it up, just keep it to something along those lines)
4. She said she was sorry I wanted to cancel, but she said she wanted to see if one of these promos would change my mind:

* $77 for 12 months
* $38.85 for 6 months
* or $14.97 for 3 months

5. I faked a surprise hesitation, and said the 14.97 deal would be great, and BAM! She charged $1.98 to my credit card (12.99 + 1.98 = 14.97) because I had just paid the October bill yesterday, so I ended up keeping XM for two more months + October for just $1.97 more than I had already paid. Slick deal.

P.S. She also informed me of XM Radio Online, so you can listen to XM through your computer for free if you already have an XM Radio subscription! This makes things a lot easier for me because I only listen to XM when I'm on my comp haha! Except this way, now I can RECORD what I listen to using various audio-recording software! Double slick deal.

I guess the question is whether they would keep offering the same deal every three months. I kinda think they won't, since I think that's a short-term attempt to hang onto a customer.

Your deal's about $17 less than the $77 deal on an annual basis, so it might be better to lock it in for a year than to try to talk them into the $14.95 deal every 3 months!

Take the $77 for the year and then you do not have to go through this every three months.

Yesterday I received a bill for the next 6 months. They want to charge me $77.70 for 6 months. Guess we will have to break out the negotiating hat.

I'm not 100% into the XM yet. I let my original subscription expire. Rec'd the $77/yr offer 1 month later in the mail with NO reactiviation fee.

I called and told them I wasn't sure I was ready to commit for the year and asked what their best deal was for 3 mo. Got the $14.95 easily.
