I posted a week ago I was in contract to buy an 08 mdx sport. I posted in the "problems" forum that when I went to pick up the car the dealer backed into another vehicle causing damage. I refused the car and started over. The dealer I was working with was not particularly helpful.
Unfortunately, there are no 08 Sports available in California at the moment in the Sterling Grey Metalic. Therefore I upgraded to the Sport/Ent package. Not really what I wanted but that's what I am getting. Pricing info is as follows:
08 MDX Sport/ent: $45,006
Sport Run Boards: 559.85
Roof Rails & Cross Bars: 409.34
Lower Front Garnish: 328.90
Body Side Molding: 247.75
Cargo Cover: 137.37
Cargo tray: $123.07
Bicycle Receiver: 570.80
Total: $47,383.08 Plus tax/license
The car alone has a sticker price of 48710 (including destination charge). The price I got on the car is roughly $765 over invoice and $3704 under sticker.
The accessories are discounted and include installation. However its hard to find much objective information on what a competitive price is.
Hope this info helps the shoppers out there. |

Yeah, that screen name did not work out so well. The car is great though. Sport package is the best part in my opinion.
I picked up the car in San Francisco yesterday. They threw in a couple of extras. They gave me the full towing package (even though I only asked for the less expensive bike receiver hitch), wheel locks, and a chrome license plate frame. I think they did not know how to give me anything less than the full tow package.
There was one issue when I picked it up. Actually the salesman caught it before I arrived. The body side molding was the wrong color (Nimbus Grey vs Sterling Grey). He dispatched the parts manager to another dealer to get the right color and applied them straight away.
I know I have read some posts here or elsewhere that people can buy these cars at or below invoice. While that is true for a year old 2007 I am fairly confident that in California a 2008 will generally go for about $1,000 over invoice. I offered less ($500 over) to several eager sales persons and they became so discouraged that they did not even call me back. In the end I doubt that I could do significantly better than the $700 over I ended up getting.
Base models, however, might be in less demand so you might get a better price. Also if you are trading in or leasing there can be any number of ways to fudge the numbers. My deal was a straight purchase.
The other interesting thing I learned was that at the dealer I bought from that the salesperson gets 25% of the sales price that exceeds invoice. So for a deal that is $1000 over invoice they get $250. However, for deals that are less than $800 over invoice they get a flat $150. The salesperson of course wants to sell for as much as possible, but at least $800 over gets him/her a lot more commission ($200) than a deal that is under $800 ($150).
Again, hope this helps those who are shopping. |

well, i don't know if it makes a difference whether you're buying or leasing, but I leased an 08 MDX with Tech, and, I dealt with the bottom line with them, and i got mine for under invoice ($40,100). I know the financing is different, but i've been told that the negotiating is the same. i'm in southern california! hope that helps! |

Leasing is actually very different. Yes, the price is something you negotiate. But the residual, the money factor and other charges have a way of hiding the true cost of the car. Dealers love how easily they can fudge the numbers. Not saying that you did not get a good deal, just that there is not enough info (nor am I am expert on leasing) to say that your lease is comparable to a straight cash purchase.
That said, perhaps a tech package car is in less demand. I dont know. Either that or So. Cal may have more competition than No. Cal. |

True..leasing is very different. I do know that i got a great deal because i calculated my monthly payments with the residual and the buy rate money factor. But I think you're right! There is much more competition down here near where I live. I mean, there are about 5 acura dealerships within reasonable driving distance for me to deal with!!! I've got to say, it's kind of a thrill to pit these dealerships against each other, and interesting to see which dealerships just wouldn't budge! |

Congrats and welcome to the family!
I lived in SoCal (30 miles east of LA in Claremont/Upland) for 11 years before moving
back to the East Coast over a year ago. I'll be there for a week or so at the end of the month.
Too bad I won’t have my X to burn up the freeway! |

I love Santa Barbara, and I also love San Francisco and San Diego. Now LA, that's a different story! |
