Used 2007 Acura MDX - Getting the Best Deal - Click HERE for Original Thread

Ok, so after doing a lot of research and test driving, I'm set on buying a used 2007 Acura MDX. I want to get the best deal.

Here are my conditions:

1) I want the Tech package. I do not need sport or entertainment.
2) I want ebony interior, and I'd prefer gray, black, or blue exterior (in that order)
2) I don't mind the car having some miles on it, but I want it to be in excellent condition.
3) I live in the Chicago area, but I'm willing to travel to get my car (if necessary).
4) I'd prefer to buy from an Acura dealer
5) I'm not in a rush

After looking around online for prices, I think I can get the car for $35K, not including taxes. They're out there for that price, just not too many of them.

Here's an example:

So, any suggestions on what I should do? Best way to approach this? As I said above, I'm not in a rush. If the end of December is when a dealer will sell me this car for $35K, then I can wait.

Thanks,
Adam

Is that one you posted a Acura Pre-Certified or just a used car? I didn't see it listed on the site at all. For Pre-Certified you can go to Acura's website and it will list them in your area.

I got a pre-certified not to long ago with around 8k miles on it, tech package for around 38k + tax.

I guess I'm not sure. It doesn't specifically say it's pre-certified, but it IS being sold by an Acura dealer. Do Acura dealers re-sell used Acuras that aren't certified? I would assume not, but I don't know.

I am not 100% sure but I think they do sell non pre-certified vehicles. The certification costs them time and money I believe so they have the option to do it.

I could be wrong though. It does usually cost the buyer more to purchase a pre-certified car also.

A certified vehicle should be labelled as such, and yes Acura dealers and all other dealers sell non-certified vehicles all the time. Going to Acura's website is a good idea, although if you live in a large urban area it can be quite daunting to sift through all the listed vehicles. Just curious, why not buy new at the end of December if they end up discounting again?

PS, the MDX does not come in dark blue anymore, but it should.

I didn't know Acura dealers sold non-certified cars. I'll have to check that out. What is the difference in service after I buy?

Regarding your last line about buying new, my goal is to get the car for $35K. If I can get the 2008 new for 35K, I'm all for it, but I don't see how that's possible.

Thoughts?

The difference in service is the pre-certified come with an extra 12 months / 12k miles from the original inservice date plus I believe it is 7 years 100k miles on the powertrain from the original service date. So it is just a longer warranty period. It might be hard to get a pre-certified tech package in your price range, have you thought about a base mdx?

Also when I bought my pre-certified they had financing on it 4.9%, I am not sure that would apply on a used car not pre-certified.

...and you got to pay extra for 7yrs/100K miles warranty for it. This kind of extend warranty is not included with the price. I paid $900 extra for my honda accord when I bought it as pre-certififed car.

I believe you are talking about the Acura wrap warranty that is 7/100 bumper to bumper. If so it is a sensitive subject for me, I didnt realize it existed until I bought the car, then called the dealership to find out they REFUSED to sell any Acura warranties. The wrap warranty is only something you can buy from the dealer you purchase the certified car from. So I was SOL.

So if you are looking for cars in the Chicago area, DON'T buy from Ed Napleton Acura....I had the worst experience with them, they are nice until you sign the papers.
