my 10 year old keep pointing this out to me

2001-2006 MDX's are being driven mainly by women, is it becoming a "chick vehicle"????

are all you guys now driving 2007's and gave the wife your "old" MDX's:(

Usually works the other way around.

To keep marital bliss, I usually get my wife the new car and I'll take the hand me down ;)

Actually my wife is driving the '03MDX and I have an '04 BMW 525, but my plan is to get the wife a new X next year and then I'll choose whether to keep the MDX or 525. It's a bit of a tossup because I love both cars although I think the MDX will save me more in my wallet if I keep it for another 3-4 years.

As far as the MDX being a 'chick' car, I don't agree. Its got enough agressive looks for either sex. If it's borderline for you, time to upgrade the rims, throw some side steps, and fender flares on. IMO that definitley gives it a more aggressive 'guy' look.

Is there any doubt that an AWD Honda Odyssey minivan with four hinged doors is anything other than a woman's car??? Real SUVs have locking transfer cases with low-range.

(ducking and running for cover :p )

It's not a chick vehicle - it's a family hauler. And who usually drives the family hauler on a day to day basis? - mothers. I'd guess the 2007/2008 is not much different. The majority of people buying a 7 seat SUVs are buying space and hauling capacity for families.

A chick vehicle is one that chicks buy because they like it - like a CRV. I don't think I've ever seen a young single male in a CRV. In fact, Honda had to come up with a whole new small SUV (the Element) to try to appeal to males.

Does that mean the Ridgeline is a chick-up truck instead of a pick-up truck............ :19: :runaway:

Most MDX's in my area (all years) are driven by women. Or at least that's what I usually see. :1:

Real men drive minivans.:D I see more Lexus RX's being driven by women, atlhough yeah, a lot of 01-06 MDXs are driven by your average soccer mom in my area. Not a lot of 07's yet so no comparison.

My MDX is 5 1/2 years old now, and still looks new.

I will drive mine for at least another 5 years, and will point out to my daughter, everytime I see a male driver.

In LA for every one MDX I see 5 Lexus RX 3XX - 99% female driver.

Of the million or so 1st generation MDXs I see on the road in New York and Connecticut, 90% are being driven by women. Seriously, aside from the Lexus RX, it's probably the most female-centric SUV I've seen on the road so far. Why this is, I couldn't tell you as it doesn't seem to be any more woman-friendly then the next SUV.

As for the new X, I still don't see that many of them, but of the few I have spied, I'd say that so far the skew is 70/30 in favor of men. However, I'm sure that this will tilt in the favor of the fairer sex as soon as more 1st generation Xs come off lease or their owners decide that it's time to buy a new SUV. Is this a bad thing? Hardly. Drive what suits you best, I say, and sod all to whatever anyone else thinks.

Adam

Honolulu, Hawaii is just like LA: 5 to 1 Lexus RX to MDX ratio, 99% driven by females (the wife drives ours, even though it has "manly" side steps).

Same here in Oakville (suburb of Toronto, Canada).

Mostly soccer moms driving MDX's.

I'm am now quite concious of being seen driving our '02 MDX on weekends. I should just strap the 2x4's to the roof of my BMW when leaving Home Depot :)

Interestingly enough, when I bought my mdx in Washington DC I was told by the dealer that the DC area has the higest per capita sales of MDX's in the country!!

I did not know that.

Our '05 MDX is my wife's daily driver.

I see a 50/50 on the 01 - 06s. However, for the 07-08, ALL of the ones I have seen to date were driven by women. I am starting to get a complex here. :(

My roommate was just commenting on how only women drive the other MDX's around town. Oh well.

The MDX is definitely a babe car. When I started doing research on what I was going to get for my wife as a daily driver I started noticing who was driving MDX's. In about 90% of the time it was always a nice looking over 30 babe.

I purchased the car from, you guessed it, a babe. What did she replace it with? Yep, an '07 MDX.

I initially wanted to put my wife in a Cadillac but she objected due to it's blue hair stigma so I had to sell the MDX idea to her as vehilcle for stylish women.

That's my 2 cents and unscientific observations.

I am getting a complex reading this thread. I need an SUV in my work and after driving Yukons for many years I wanted something smaller and more efficient. The MDX fits the bill perfectly. I bought a high mileage 2001 to see if I would like the vehicle and then bought a low mileage 2005 a year ago. The wife is on her second Volvo S80 which she loves; she has no interest in driving the MDX.

This got me thinking....I have four friends with first generation MDXs. Not much of a sample, but two are driven my males and two by females.

Maybe for my self esteem I need to drive my big Chevy extended cab long bed pickup more often.:D

Hey wasjr,

Don't get me wrong. Just because the MDX is a babe car that doesn't keep me from driving it occasionally. I get a kick out of seeing the disappointment on the faces of guys as they check out who is driving it.
:D

Since you also have a real truck you shouldn't get a complex over driving a babe mobile. However, you might want to stay more alert around your male buds who own them. ;)

Don't feel bad.

A co-worker of mine told me today that my 04 is a "yuppie truck."

She's 34 years old, and still lives at home with her M&D. Drives a Sequoia that her daddy bought.

I wasn't insulted one bit.

Our '02 MDX is our daily driver and pup-hauler (two dogs). My toy is an '06 Z06 Corvette and the wife's toy is a '98 Corvette convertible. We could give a flying rodent's behind who drives MDXs or who is labeled as driving MDXs. We 've had BMWs, Grand Cherokees, Explorers, even a CR-V and nothing compares to the overall value, quality, comfort and performance of the MDX.

People spend way too much time worrying about what other people think. Live your own life...period.

Our X is the wife's daily driver also. I drive it mostly on weekends. But I don't think it looks like a chick's ride at all. Unlike a RX350 or a VW bug. Not that there is anything wrong with that... :)
Here is a picture of our X:

In 2000 when I totaled my 1998 Honda Accord coupe EX V6, ran into a stopped semi-truck, my wife bought a 2001 MDX for me to, “keep me from killing myself,” she said.

It was great for her to get the wheel chair in and out of as she chauffeured me around for the six months it took for me to get back on my feet.

Now she only drives my 06 MDX when she is chauffeuring the grandchildren around.

Hello, I really dont care if the MDX is a guy or chic car, as long as it gets me and my friends around comfortably and in style...
