Well, I'm tired of waiting! My delaer in New Hampshire hasn't been able to give me any definitive dates for the arrival of my "whatever the hell color comes in first" MDX with Touriing and Nav. I just got back from visiting my father in Tennessee and came across a dealer that has 9! Yes 9 MDX's!! I almost fainted. Anyway, the bad news is that none of them have NAV; however, the dealer is willing to try and trade with another dealer for a NAV. When you have 9 vehicles you have room to bargain. My delaer has one freakin' MDX. Anyway, I saw all the colors except Mahogony and I gotta admit that the darker colors (Emerald Pearl & Black) look really nice.
So... it looks like I may be traveling back south to pick up an MDX and I was wondering if any of you that have bought out of state could share your experiences. Has anyine used E-loan out there? I figured I would just get pre-approved and travel down there with a check. I would imagine that I need to make sure I contact my insurance company but what about plates? Can I just use temporaries? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Am I missing anything? I sure don't want to get doewn there and miss something important!!!! |

I bought my MDX in Texas. Hope this helps.
1)Sales Tax - You pay sales tax in the state that you live in. Depending on the state, your dealer more than likely will not be able to collect the sales tax or registration fees. So more than likely you will be responsible for paying the tax, title, and registration. I live in NJ, so I paid for everything at the DMV.
2)Temporary plates - The dealer will issue you a 30 day temporary plate so you will be able to travel. When I arrived in NJ, I was able to go straight to DMV and get NJ plates the same day. You do have 30 days to use the temporary paper plate but don't rely on that for too long.
3)Insurance - You will need to get that on your own. If you are financing, the lender is going to want to see proof of insurance coverage before the dealership is able to release the vehicle. I did not finance my MDX(paid cash for it) but I had coverage for my MDX prior to going to TX to pick it up.
Since I didn't finance, I can't tell you about that side of things. I had funds wired into the dealership's account to insure everything went smoothly. I am sure your finance company/lender will do something similar.
I encourage people that aren't having luck up North or even on the West Coast, to travel to the Southern Acura Dealers. They seem to have more MDX's in stock than up North and they are a little more friendlier-Southern Hospitality I guess. Why they have MDX's down south as compared to everywhere else is anyone's guess. I'm thinking because Ford, GM, Jeep, are still the more popular and practical brands for trucks/SUVs.
Nevertheless, buying out of state is not that difficult at all. The best part...
You get to drive it back UP! |

| How long have you been waiting? is the dealer Sunnyside? |

Got approved @ 6.5% and change (6.56 I think?) in about 2 hrs. Paid the $12 to get the check draft next day.
Read a few posts about some dealers being reluctant to accept the check (since they get a kickback for their own financing) but I called mine in advance and told them I am using eLoan and they assured me no problem.
Even the dealers who've been reluctant have accepted the check after calling eLoan's 800#. |

| If you use E-Loan, read the small print and call and talk to someone to make sure the low APR % is good for the entire contract and not just the first year. |

Hi Dancall:
Cant blame you a bit.... I'm from NJ and everything that DJ said ls right. I bought out of state Del. but only 30 miles away. But if you could buy closer, it would be better. SUNNY SIDE in Nasua sounds real good in the dealer rating page. Give them a shot. Good luck Big Al |

Hi DJRich,
The only downside I see is in case one has a problem with his/her MDX, you would need to take it to a local dealer. For e.g. the CD buttons not working. Now I know, the MDX is under the warranty period but how entertaining would a NJ dealer be, knowing the fact that you did not buy the MDX from him!! I mean we already know how high handed they are already, how would this fact affect their behavior? Any experience/comments so far?

| We are all protected under the warranty and ALL dealerships have to honor them. I purchased an extended warranty covering me for 6 years 100,000 miles. My dealership told me not to worry about it. Also, when I called Montclair Acura to tell them that I purchased my MDX in Texas, they still wanted my business and said, "Well I hope you plan on servicing your car over here." What is good about the Acura warranty is that they have to honor them. Let's say you are on the road traveling 3 states away. If something goes wrong or you need service, your MDX is taken to the nearest Acura dealer for service and if you have to spend the night at a hotel, you are covered for X amount for lodging. I have to take my MDX for its first oil change by the end of this month probably- I have about 2500 miles already. I will let you know if I experience any problems with service depts but I don't think I will. |

Yes, I am talking about Sunnyside. First and foremost they have been fine to deal with and were very up front and honest. I ordered November 7th and was told I would see a January Delivery. My situation is that I have an Expedition that is leased which was due in January and I had to extend to February. Now February is approaching and I have no date.
I can wait but I need a more definitive date. I haven't even gotten a clear picture of where I am on the list. I expect the dealers know how many are coming in per month and should be able to tell approximately where you are. ???
So, the bottom line is I'm at a point where I'm willing to travel if need be to get what I want. Luckily, I have some good contacts in the South which has been helpful.
Anyway, thanks for everyone's responses.
I'm still waiting! |
