Need Someone With 04' Service Manual - Click HERE for Original Thread

I need assistance from someone who has access to 04' Service Manual. If someone has one, Can I request a picture of the page where it covers the part where the oil filter is attached to? Again, the oil filter attaches to this part and there is also two wires connected to it as well. One of the connector is green and the other connector has a cylindrical shape attached to it. Well I took this part off with the cylyndrical shape off and a rod and a spring fell out of it. I want to confirm if the spring goes in before the rod or vice versa. I went ahead and reinstall it with the spring first and then the rod. I hope I did it right.

I'm sorry I can't be any clearer as I don't know what the part is called. I need to find out how a particular part is re-attached.

I want to confirm that I reinstalled the part correctly.

Thanks,

Christian

That cylindrical part I'm referring to above is the "oil pressure sender". So this pressure sender is attached to a flange with in turn is attached to the Oil Filter Housing.

I took this flange w/oil sender off of the Oil Filter Housing. Then I took the Oil Filter Housing out and laid it down on the floor. Sometime in between from the time I took it out and put it back, two things fell out: small rod-like thing and a spring. Again, I don't know if the spring goes in first or the rod.

Initially, I turn on the engine and the engine oil and battery warning indicator remain on. However, after I disconnected the battery for like a minute and reconnected it there were no warning lights after I started the engine and left it on.

Is it safe to drive the car?

Thanks,

I got this image from the web somewhere. The bolt and spring I'm referring to is the ones right below part number 13. Do you think the picture displays how things should be installed?

Based on the picture above, then the spring goes in first prior to the rod. This is how I reinstalled those parts.

Can anyone please confirm? I would like to get an OK from a board member before I drive the car again. It would be great if someone has a Haynes manual and can confirm.

Thanks!

You better buy the shop manual (not a Haynes manual).

#14 is the oil pressure switch, it's mounted on the oil pump, not the oil filter mount. The part you were messing with, #12, is the rocker arm oil control solenoid. There is also a rocker arm oil pressure switch which I think is #15.

I can't find any drawing in the shop manual that shows in detail what's underneath the rocker arm oil control solenoid. In the section that describing how to diagnose and replace the solenoid, you can see the top of the rod sticking out when the solenoid is removed, which I'm guessing shows that the spring goes in first, as shown in your drawing.

jhue, thanks for your response.

My mistake, I was referring to a Helms service manual.

The low oil pressure indicator in the instrument panel, is that reading from both the #14 and #15 oil pressure switch, or one of them, or neither of them?

Also, can someone tell me how you can check the oil pressure?

Again, I had to disconnect the wires to the oil control solenoid (#12) and the oil pressure switch (#15) when I removed part #10. After putting everything back, including a new oil filter, new oil, I started the engine. The "low oil pressure" and "battery" indicator remained on. I immediately turn off the engine. I disconnected the batttery and checked the two wire connections (#12 and #15) and made sure its connected securely. I started the engine again and drove around the block and the "low oil pressure" and "battery" did not come on.

Am I OK to drive the car now?

Thanks!

I believe it's only from #14. If the low oil pressure light comes on, the manual only mentions the switch on the oil pump.

Unscrew oil pressure switch. Screw in oil pressure gauge.

You could also just use a cheap mechanical dashboard oil pressure gauge too I suppose.

When checking the oil pressure, should the engine be "on" or "off"? What is the normal oil pressure reading?

Oh man, you're scaring me. The engine has to be running. Otherwise the oil pump isn't turning and there won't be any oil pressure. You might want to rethink whether it's a good idea for you to be doing any mechanical work at all on your vehicle.

IIRC, manual says 10psi minimum at idle, 71psi minimum at 3000rpm.

I hear you. The job started out as an regular oil change until I was not able to get the oil filter off the normal way.

I realize it should but I just wanted to confirm before I do something stupid again.

BTW, on your shop manual, do you have a clear picture of the rod that is underneath part #12? One end of the rod is flat while the other end has a smaller tip at the end. You can kind of see it from the picture. Can you please confirm that what is shown in the attached picture is the correct orientation of the rod?
