Realistically, or typically, with the 07 MDX, provided I can still find some, how much of a discount off the MSRP can someone who's in the market look to get when entering price negotations? I'm looking at the Sport package with a some interior and exterior accessories installed. Does it vary greatly from county to county?

As well, do any of you have a dealer you would not recommend due to a bad past experience? Conversely, do any of you have a dealer you'd confidently recommend because you found them to be professional and honest in your dealings with them?

Just FYI, I'm currently researching and exploring the possibility of purchasing an 07 or perhaps even an 08 MDX in the Los Angeles (Southern CA). I'm up here in Canada, but my parents live in the L.A. area and with most of you probably aware of how the Canadian dollar is on par with the US dollar, I'm looking to purchase an MDX with just a little more than what I'd spend on a Pilot up here right now, which I currently drive.

Depending on the different treatment between a car coming across the border purchased directly from a dealer as new and a "used" car purchased from an individual, I might end up having my parents buy the car on my behalf. So, this will be an all cash transaction with the dealer.

But my parents have never purchased a new vehicle before and they are, to say the least, very naive. So, I'll be left to do all the researching with the dealers, contacting them and negotiating with them over the phone and via online.

So, I thought perhaps I can get some insight into the Southern CA market and some dealer recommendations from some of you.

Any other insight, input, suggestions, tips or info would be greatly appreciated! Thank you for your time and courtesy.

Hey RibRock,

I must say that you are in the exactly same situation as I am in.
I've been researching on importing a new 08' MDX w/ Sport & Ent. for months then recently found out that 08' MDX is in the inadmissable list on RIV.ca.

so then I looked for an alternative way to get the car in states, and finally decided to purchase a vehicle in southern california as my parents live in L.A. area. by the way, I live in Vancouver, BC now.

I planned to register in California then ship it to either Vancouver, BC or near border city in Wasington state, because I do not want to drive long distance with a new vehicle in a break-in period.

I spent days to research dealerships in Souther California, including LA county and Orange county and found some honest dealers n' liars. For example, i guess all the acura dealerships in california have a network system that they can check out the inventories in other dealerships.

After calling more than 10 dealerships in Southern California, I realized that there are only two vehiecles available in California that I waned with color and packages. some dealers have told me this fact honestly, while some dealers said they do have the vehicle that i want in their inventory, infact, they do not even have one. In the beginning, I believed them, however they weren't able to provide me a vin# or exact mileage on vehicle and eventually lie to me that the vehicle was just sold.

I guess it's hard to find the honest dealers especially if you are going to deal with them on the phone or email. I will share the information on dealers that i researched, if you need any help.

Hi James! Thanks for your quick reply and the heads up about the inventory checking system among the dealers in that region.

I'll do a bit more research and poking around and see what else I can find out about the dealers in Southern CA.

In the meantime, can you please PM me with the names of the dealers and perhaps even the names of the reps you dealt with who were honest about their inventory situation? Thanks again!

Guys,
I finally picked up my blk/blk '08 T and E pkg. two nights ago! I love it!!! I've called and emailed six dealerships and ended up getting the best deal in Valencia Acura, about an hour drive from LA. I negotiated(for my credit union - lease) $500 over invoice. I believe Valencia Acura have at least six '08(one blk/blk S&E pkg), and one '07 left. It seemed like dark cherry pearl is a hard color to locate; no one has it with T&E pkg. So I ended up with a new black machine...no regrets... it actually looks cool next to my wife's black miata grand touring!
Other dealers:
Keyes Acura, Van Nuys--- claim they have all colors except cherry(my first choice)but won't give out price over the phone nor by email!:o She'll tell you to bring other dealers' best price and she'll match or try to beat it.

Cerritos Acura(about 1.5? hours from LA)- gave $ over the phone but is high compared to other dealers plus it's too far from where I live. They still have some '07s.

Glendale Acura- will not tell you their "internet price".

West 101 Acura, Calabasas-- price is reasonable but adds some other charges( wheel locks, phantom markings??) to the purchase price. Some of the added costs were taken off ($199)when I told him about those unecessary charges. I almost bought from him but the $200 savings led me to Valencia.

Santa Monica Acura- about 30-min drive from LA. I spoke with the internet manager and asked him to provide me with the last price. He said that he'll check his inventory but I never got a call back!!

I hate driving around so I only shop by internet or by phone. It saves me time and gas money. Another way to shop is by carsdirect.com. They will locate the vehicle for you. PM me if you need more info. Good luck!!!!:2:

hey guys!!

ok...i'm here in orange county, and here's my experience. I leased an 08 MDX tech back in the middle of September. I paid $40100 (a couple hundred under invoice). Here is my experience:

Cerritos Acura - LOVED them. they will beat any other dealership out there. i was on the phone with them back and forth for a week, and they gave me the absolute lowest price i could find. i ended up buying from them.

Weir Canyon Acura - HORRIBLE. NEVER GO TO THEM....they'll rip you and your mom off. the closest they ever got to a "low" price was still a couple thousand over the other dealerships. i've tried to buy from them 3 times now, and each time, it's the same thing...they overprice.

Thomas Acura - these guys were comparable to Cerritos. They're a little nicer too. they had a pretty low price, but cerritos beat them, and they didn't respond back to me quick enough, so i went with cerritos.

Tustin Acura - many of my friends liked this dealership, but they weren't giving me great quotes either. decent ones, but not great.

This was my experience! i really liked cerritos acura...this is my 2nd mdx i've gotten from them. they seem to be the most competitive with their prices.

for an 07, you should most definitely get it under invoice in this area. i mean, i got my 08 for under invoice, the 07's should definitely be cheaper.

my recommendation is that you shop through e-mails and phones first. i did it for a week, and pitted 3 dealerships against each other. that's how i got the best deal i could get!

hope this helps!

Hello fellas! Sorry for such a late reply on your follow-ups. And thank you so much with such detailed replies. I'll be sure to contact the dealers you mentioned and see what comes up for me. Thanks again for your time and courtesy! Oh, and I've decided to pursue the 08 MDX, instead of the 07.

I bought my 03' from cerritos Acura as well, they beat Thomas & others at that time.

Keep us posted on the best quote from which dealer for the 08', I may go for trade-in before the tranny (46k) fails on me, wife is driving the MDX so I can't take any chance.:(

you know, I had to trade in my 05 MDX touring with navi before i got my 08 mdx tech from cerritos acura. I ended up selling my 05 mdx to carmax...they were giving me about $2k more for my 05 than the dealerships were. I would have gone private sale, but i wasn't willing to wait any longer. Thomas Acura gave me a higher quote for my 05 MDX than Cerritos did, but Cerritos Acura beat Thomas Acura on the price of the car. but, carmax was the way to go!

hope this helps!
