I'm new to leasing. I plan to add accessories to my '08 T&E but worried that my leassor will charge me for extra wear and tear after I remove the installed accessories. Here are my future add ons:
SRB- seems like it's a bolt-on job, no modification needed. a must add-on that will help my kids when boarding the X and when I wash the X! I already ordered this part from Tim.
BSM- I'm worried about the discoloration on the paint after I take em off. great anti-door-ding device!
Roof rails&crossbars- surely I got to do some cutting but I guess I could buy a new roof molding and install it. Hmm, what about the paint underneath the rail covers after I remove em?
Hood air deflector- I don't think there will be any problem removing this add-on. But Tim of Hondacura does not sell it (web). Hey Tim- when are you gonna sell it???
Trailer hitch- I don't think there's an issue with the bolting of the hitch. I'm concerned about the "wiring mod". 'woder if the inspection (after the lease) will be very detailed as to discover these mods.
Any experience getting charged for these mods upon turning over the X to the leasing company? thanks! happy X-ing!!!! |

| For the BSMs, I would just leave them on when you return the vehicle. Odds are they won't even notice it. Same could be said for the roof rack, unless you plan on reselling it. |

Alright then, BSM added to my X(mas) list! 'guess if I really have to take 'em off after the lease, I could go to a paint shop and have em match the color. that would be cheaper than fixing door dings! And as you said, they might not even notice that those bsm are there. Thanks! |

First, if you are leasing, you should not spend any money on any accessories that "protect".
The lease from Honda Financial Corp. provides that the first $1500 of damage in total, $500 per incident are waived. So there is no sense in paying for protection that you already have in the lease.
Second: Remember that accessories are not residualized in the lease. Your lease payment will include the total cost of each accessory. So unlike buying, where you may keep the car for a longer period so as to amortize the cost and when you sell you may recoup part of the cost, when you lease the opposite happens: The residual does not go up so you get zero credit for accessories.
Finally when I turned in '03 MDX I had the roof rack (I installed) and trailer hitch (Uhaul). No problem at all.

I got approved with HondaFinance for 100%(no down) but I did not go with them. My credit union gave me a lower otd payment. However, I do not know if my c.u. included the $1500 allowance that you've mentioned. I'll call them tomorrow. Thanks for the info!! |
