I'm trying to remove the rear rotors on my 2002 MDX.
Can anybody give me some advice?
Do I have to remove the spindle nut on the rear hub to remove the rotor?
How do I do it? |

I've only done the fronts but I am assuming you would not need to remove that nut. Just remove the two screws holding on the rotor get a big hammer or two pound sledge and start banging that rotor! It will probably take a few hard whacks before it comes loose.
Good luck! |

| I think you're right, that's how the fronts came off, but the manual that I have says to remove the spindle nut before removing the rotor. |

Disclaimer: I've never touched the brakes on my MDX. It only has 30k miles on it.
The shop manual shows the nut being removed prior to the rear disk, but that is in the context of replacing a wheel bearing, so it isn't clear whether it has to come off to get the disk off.
It does say that there are two holes in the disk (8x1.25mm) you can thread bolts into to press it off the rear hub though, so there is no need to bang on it with a hammer. I had a Toyota whose disks had threaded holes like that, just thread bolts into them and tighten each one a half turn or so at a time until the disk pops off. |
