Would like to get these 2 accessories when I buy the 2008 MDX in near future. It is my understanding that the hardware costs are as follows: dealer list price - $219 and $239; Tim's price (w/o tax) is $175 and $181 respectively. If the dealer does the installation, what are people seeing as to the installation costs?

p.s. - I previously installed the molding on 2002 MDX and it was pretty easy to do. However, I am reluctant to do the roof railings.

Curry Acura has it at $169 with no tax and no shipping charges. I got quoted at my local dealer $160 for installation, but that seems too much to me. Their take is that it's difficult to do it, but I'm just thinking of doing it myself.

I've bought a number of things from Curry before and have been very happy with them especially on how they handle issues like exchanges of damage goods.

Anyway, I installed the roof rails myself. The most "difficult" part is measuring and trimming the weather strip. Everything else is a straight bolt on. The instructions suggest a hacksaw but I used a dremel for the task (why use elbow grease when power tools are available).

Took me a couple of hours one weekend and I've been hauling all kinds of stuff on the roof already.

Hello guys, new member. I bought a 08 MDX last week to replace an aging 97 Grand Cherokee. Absolutely delighted by the vehicle so far.

A few points from my side. The two dealers I spoke to in the Atlanta area said they install a protection package on the vehicle the moment they come off the trucks. That includes the side body molding and some other body protection for the paint. The cost is $600, but the invoice on that is $408.00. I got it free of cost as part of the base price.

I had the roof rails and cross bars installed by the dealer along with a trunk liner (134), $600.00 installed after a 25% discount.

I am still thinkking that is a little high.

Thanks

You are correct, it is a bit high:

The "body protection for the paint" was probably nothing more than normal car wash, as in ordinary dealer prep.

This is one of the oldest scams going and was the subject of a class action suit brought by the New York State Attorney General's off ice about 15 years ago.

Surprised that dealers are still trying to pull this scam.

Ditto with "under body anti rust treatments"

Side body moldings: If you like them fine, but I would never pay for them.

So that leaves the roof rack. You overpaid a bit, but not that much, so do not worry, just enjoy it!

Happy New Year!

Hello,
and congrats on the new car. Looks like you did pretty good if the $600 is for the parts with installation together. I just looked up the parts at CurryAcura(they offer discounts on all accessories) and total for roof rails, cross bars and liner comes out to $517. So really you only paid $83 for installation. The retail on those three would come out to $683.
